Why I don't like Kenny

edited July 2013 in The Walking Dead
I've decided to go back and do another playthrough before 400 Days came out. I've stuck by all my major decisions and I've forgotten how much of a butt Kenny can be. I'm not saying I hate him, but overall I think he's so narrow-minded that he turns his back on you just for going against him one time.

I admit I didn't like Larry, but I stick by my decision to help Lilly. Actually, after you do a few compressions, you'll see him take a breath. So, Kenny basically killed someone in cold blood. In episode 3 I was civil to him and I never fought him or yelled at him; even after dropping me at the pharmacy, I asked him if he was okay and he blew me off . And then a-hole just decides to leave me for dead, not including the time at the farm.

It seems to me that Kenny's only loyal to you if you agree with him. I understand him being a little miffed at first, but he actually has the guts to say in Ep. 5 that I only look after myself after looking out for his family?

That's big, considering I despised Duck. Really, I wasn't the least bit sad when he got bitten. In Ep. 3 I wanted to tell him to leave me alone and play in a highway of walkers, which he would probably do.

I can see why Kenny would lose it after watching both his wife and kid die, but that still doesn't excuse him. At first I was mad that I picked Lilly's side after what she did, but I don't regret my choices. When Kenny sacrificed himself, I felt more sad over what could've been more than I did for him, if that makes sense. I suppose, in a way, he did redeem himself, which is more than I can say for Lilly.

It's wierd how a game can make you despise and feel sorry for someone.

Kenny just needs to get his priorities sorted out. I save his family like six times but, despite that, he hates me because I didn't help him kill Larry. It's bullshit, not only that but he would leave Clem behind just because of this silly little grudge with Lee. Rgh.

Just regarding the meat locker decision....

A lot of people bring up the argument that you see Larry's lips move before Kenny kills him, which may prove he was alive. It's a fair point, and probably shows that Kenny was wrong.

However, at the time of making the decision there was no way to know this. Until this point in the game things had been far less linear, take Doug/Carley for example. There was no way to know whether trying to save Larry would lead to Lilly, or Kenny, or even Clem being bitten.

It's a very easy choice to make in hindsight, but on your first playthrough Kenny makes a pretty convincing argument.

I also feel this way about killing the St Johns. As we now know they're pretty much dead anyway due to zombies getting in, it's an easy choice to spare them. At the time there's no way to know that sparing Andy wouldn't lead to Carly, Lily or even Clem being raped to death by a deranged cannibal.

Same with the supplies, we know the group takes them anyway, but when faced with the choice you didn't know whether Lee would convince the rest of the group to leave them and it would lead to someone starving to death and maybe turning. After all it's only Kenny and Kat who want to take the stuff, Carly is neutral and the rest of the group is opposed to it. Lee had just protected the whole group from a terrible threat and almost seemed to have stepped into a leadership role at that moment, with him leading the pack through the woods and everyone following behind. It was conceivable to me at the time that saying no would mean the supplies were left.

Good points, but that requires you to think ahead of the current situation, and not everyone does that. On some of these choices you don't have time to think about anything, it has to be here and now(like the meat locker decision).

You can't restart someone's heart with CPR. Larry assumedly went into cardiac arrest, so yeah, he was definitely dead. The twitch of his jaw seemed more like he was reanimating to me.

(Also, it's not major, but if you watch Larry closely you can see his eyes open a slit the whole time he is prone. While this doesn't necessarily mean he's dead, it does make it seem more likely to me.)

I chose to help Kenny and not Lilly because I simply couldn't take the chance of Clem getting hurt, and because Kenny was the one with the RV; I didn't even dislike Larry (I knew he was only looking out for his daughter.)

I don't hate Kenny but he is a dick unless you agree with him on everything particularly leaving you to die on several occasions . Plus even if you agree with him he still acts like he and his family are the only ones who matter at all. Ben's rage in ep 5 sums up what I wanted to say to Kenny all game.

I know he's a good guy under it all but he has his issues.

Well name me one character that does not screw up big time in season 1, I can't think of any and yes Kenny and be a asshole to you be even at that he never shot me in the head.

My problem with Kenny is he only cares about the Now and his Family and the moment I am not willing to kill for him he claims I never helped him
Episode 1 and 2 I helped him at every turn but I wouldn't Kill Larry
After that he blamed me for everything when if he had not killed Larry nothing would have fallen apart...
Kenny caused all the trouble and was worse than Larry as Larry was at least honest...

I would not say he is worse then Larry, but he can be ass if you are not on his side and to be honest I can not defend that aspect that much.

    Does getting killed count?
    Doug, Chuck, Christa.
and yes Kenny and be a asshole to you be even at that he never shot me in the head.
He prefers using a salt lick.

One possibly dead person, he likes to give people to much sodium. I count getting killed messing up, not on the line of Lilly but it is making a mistake, and Christa jumping down to get the wakie if you killed Ben was not a smart decision.
  • edited July 2013
Yeah, Christa was pretty stupid there. "I dun giv a fuk, need raydio."

I do not hate her for it, it was just not a smart idea, but if she got Kenny killed... I won't do anything I will just say he was a good guy and not blame her, I have enough hatred for Lilly already.

At least Christa is honest for Omid,Lee.

Despite what the comic book or TV show might say, I think there is such a thing as karma in the WALKING DEAD universe. If Kenny continues to act like a five-star heel and refuses to help find a little girl because of some petty vendetta, he gets his ass handed to him by a group of weak, elderly cancer survivors. You reap what you sow, Kenny...:p

If Karma exists then why is Lilly still breathing?

That is kinda funny. I wish one of the options was "The cancer ridden octogenarians kicked your ass!". :p

kenny is a minor dick, though he is quite emotional, and not real moral. he's the hick version of a valley girl, which is one step better for a zombie apocalypse. lilly is stressed out easy, but is pragmatic yet crazy, she'll do fine in a zombie apocalypse, as long as fellow survivors don't kill her (she may kill them, so not a group person). larry has a heart condition, is openly hostile, but honest, though without morals, the honesty is good, but everything else spells doom in a zombie apocalypse. frankly all 3 could fuck off as far as i'm concerned, an rv is nice, but not as practical as a reliable car with camping gear, i feel sorry for duck and his mom, they aren't too bad as members of the group go. i rarely ever stood up for kenny, but i did for his family at every turn.

The reason Kenny holds a grudge against you if you go against him even once is because thats just the way the game is designed. I stuck with Kenny since the start and in turn, he has always had my back through every decision. You look after him, he looks after you.

I stuck up for him and Duck against Larry
I helped kill Larry since Kenny was right and making that decision was going to keep Clementine safe.
I went against Kenny's wish for me to drop Ben by saving him.

And when I was bit and needed him the most to help me find Clementine, he didn't even hesitate and told me that I was always there for him and his family and he would help me without question.

Kenny is a really good friend and you're loyal to him.

In the game, any choices and decisions are "reasonable"
You only need to make a "not contrary to own inner"
