Recycling of voice actors, extremely irrating

edited July 2013 in The Walking Dead
Am I the only one? When I heard those extremely familiar voices I got really distracted and tbh it kinda ruined the game for me a little as every character with a recycled voice felt unreal, I was constantly thinking about the old season 1 characters whenever they opened their mouths. At least try to somehow change their voices either manually (try putting on an accent or something) or digitally by making their voices darker or somehow make them different from the main cast.

Super irritating, at least for me.
I definitely heard Ben, Andrew St John, Cop from Ep1, Molly, Katja and Jolene.
Probably more but those were the ones I immediately recognized within their first sentence.

I really REALLY hope they don't reuse the same voices for Season 2. It ruins the entire illusion of a new character imho.

I can sort of understand your irritation, but as an avid watcher of cartoons (The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, Archer, etc.) I suppose I'm just used to hearing the same people voicing various characters.

You should play Fallout 3 and New Vegas.. even the greatest games got that kind of voice acting and it really doesn't matter because of it's awesomeness.

I am aware that voice actors get reused a lot but like I said in the opening post at least change your voice ffs! In this game the voices are almost exactly the same as in season 1. Immediately recognizable. Now this is totally not the case for example in your Simpsons etc statement. Does Homer sound like Krusty? No. Marge and Selma sound like different characters same as Bart, Raplh and Nelson or Apu and Duffman. I could go on and on.

The issue may not be using the same actors, but the actors using the almost exact same voices.

The problem with comparing the voice actors from the Simpsons and The Walking Dead is that the former as a whole are more experienced than the latter.

Also, because of budget reasons, I don't think Telltale can hire an experience actor with various range. Sure, a few of the actors they hired in the past had good range, but the other ranges were more fitting for cartoon characters.

But then there is Vegas Trip, who not only voiced Russel, but Sal and Chuckles from S & M.

I actually kind of liked hearing familiar voices. I knew Justin was Ben, Leland was Andy, and Dee was Katjaa almost immediately, but I didn't really mind. One of the other voice actors they reused was Anthony Lam, who voiced The Stranger in Episode 5, and did Vince for 400 Days. all in all, I have no complaints about that. It helped add a sense of familiarity for me.

I noticed none of them except Justin as Ben.

Of course, Ben was my favorite character from Season 1.

Hey at least they're not all voiced by Nolan North. Consider yourself lucky.

I literally didn't notice one single recycled voice actor.

I noticed Leeland's voice being recycled, but couldn't put a face why until reading this thread.

I only noticed Dee being Katjaa.

I literally did not expect Ben/Justin and Andy/Leland.

Maybe I just can't tell XD

I can see how the recycled voice actors can ruin a game for some people, but at least they didn't reuse character models for human characters like the previous TT games like TMI.

I could tell Justin was the voice actor for Ben and I heard Andy St. John in there too.
To me, Justin sounded like a badass version of Ben, because we all know Ben is FAR from being a badass

What would be awesome if they TT gotten the voice of Lee to do another char. The guy has good vocal ranges and he is, imo, as popular as the voice actor of Larry

    Likewise.

Yeah I notice Justin being Ben straight away know that son of a bitch's voice from anywhere. I didn't know Andy was Leland I thought the voice of Andy was Roman. Didn't know Katjaa was Dee through. It didn't irritate me through, didn't interrupt my game play, I was fine with it.

In 400 days there was actually some characters with the same voice i think from what i see on the Wiki.
Shel and Dee had the same voice actor and probably someone else i just didn't check more.

I noticed Ben/Justin, Katjaa/Shel and Molly/Bonnie. I got used to it pretty quickly though once I realised who their voice actors were.

Yeah that's Stephanie and I thought while playing Shel's story that she sounded a bit like Carley. I don't think it's the same voice actress though.

DUDE. That would be great how is that a bad thing.

I only noticed Ben's voice in Justin, and even then it was only when he raised his voice. The actors seemed to do a damn good job disguising their voices because i couldn't recognize anyone else, but maybe it's just me.

It seems like the majority slightly noticed 3 or 4 voices, and it didn't bother them too much.

Maybe I have a different memory and perception of voices, as I clearly noticed a lot more same voices and immediately connected that voice to another character. And I haven't played the game since a couple of months since EP5 last came out.

Maybe I am being too sensitive about it, but I thought it was an issue for me.
Majority seems to barely even notice so I think the topic is pretty clear.
