Does anyone else think that Russell...

edited August 2013 in The Walking Dead
...was an Asshole?

In almost every dialogue option he has when first meeting Nate has got this self-righteous, moral high-ground angle to it - like he's surviving just fine as a goody-two-shoes...

-

E.g.

Nate: Are you in a gang?

I pick no.

Russell: THAT'S RACIST!

-

I get that in 400 Days we're playing as characters with pre-established personalities (unlike Lee) but Russell comes off as such a douche.

/Rant.

Thoughts?

I thought Wyatt was a little mean to Eddie, but then again that is what most friendships seem to be now adays, I do not see the whole Russel is a douche angel.

Russel did come off kinda that way at the end.

No! Why would you say that?

Yeah I liked Russell the least out of the 5. He looked like the least asshole-y and most chill out of all 5 but he turns out to be pretty annoying I think.

Yeah - he seems alright when you first start playing as him, but once he starts talking...

I feel the reason that many people don't like Russell is because he didn't have much time for character development and show us his feelings in the short episode. If you think about, Day 184 was actually "Nate's Story". (Which I'm fine with, :D just wish Russell had more time to shine) Nate was actually the most complex character in 400 Days.

He really was the main character in that chapter, not that it's a bad thing and I liked Russel for the record.

Yeah, lol TellTale should patch 400 Days and put a picture of Nate instead of Russell and when it says- DAY 184- it should say-NATE.

If you think about it Russell only had about 35 more seconds of screen time than Nate in his story

Nah, I liked my Russell. :3

Yeah you have a point, it's like in Wyatt's episode I feel like I don't know him as well just because Eddie has such a stand out personality, and Nate obviously does as well so they overshadow the main character.

I believe Wyatt and Eddie did stand out together in that chapter, I may have liked Eddie a little bit more then Wyatt but I am sure the more we know him the more we will like him.

The more Eddie talks, the more I laugh

Yeah I hope Eddie survived just so he can meet up with Wyatt again in Season 2.

Which is why they need him back, if they bring him back along with Nate then we will both be laughing hard and being scared at the same time, win.

i like russell i feel like he had two totally different ways you could play him, you could either be totally overconfident in a typical teenage way or you could be totally sincere and sort of passive, also i like Nate's character so that added to the enjoyment of his section of the game
  • edited July 2013
Yes it did, that chapter would not have been fun without Nate, can you even imagine what it would have been like without Nate?

I like Russell. I also like the fact that he is a moralist who looks down at people who don't live up to what he believes is right. We haven't had a character like that yet. And honestly him looking down on Nate a psychopath, and Danny the rapist doesn't bother me much.

It would basically be just Russell walkin' along... talking to himself
  • edited July 2013
Russell may be one of my favorite of the five actually. He's still young, and can introduce himself condescendingly depending on how you play him, but he seems like someone trying to stay relatively moral and level-headed without coming across as too trusting.

Besides, Nate isn't exactly a class act. I don't see why Russell wouldn't have the right to think poorly of some of the initial crap that he says/does.

I can see how "You got some boys wearing hoodies I gotta worry about?" can be taken negatively.

Maybe I didn't find it offensive because most Hoodies are white where I come from (UK).

Or maybe Russell is the racist for hearing hoodies and immediately thinking of Black people... :D

Isnt Russel a teenager? Teenager's are usual angry/quick to anger most of the time, I know I get that way, its a sort of "dont want to be distrubed at certain times" sort of thing, so I know what it's like.

Well Ben was a teenager and he was the biggest pussy on earth while Travis .... well ..... his dad was special forces

Be would have a heart attack if he saw his shadow after he comes out of the bathroom, is anyone surprised he even made it three months with only himself, a dumb teacher, and mister special forces dad.

To simplify how I feel about the characters i'd say Bonnie is Nice, Wyatt is good person but conflicted since he abandoned eddie IMG, Russell bit of a douche and too suspiscious,Shel kind of like Lily and Vince a decent guy who does what he thinks has to be done.
  • edited July 2013
Not at all. Like others have said, Nate certainly overshadowed Russell in his own chapter, and that includes being a bigger dickhead.
  • edited August 2013
I kind of found his episode the funniest

they were like a odd couple

I can watch a whole game with crazy nate and Russel

He also looks down on Bonnie because of her past as a drug addict, despite her rehabilitation. I thought that was a bit out of line.
