Puzzle Agent 2 Steam won't start

Hello there! I've been trying to play PA2 with Steam, but the game simply won't start! I'm on a Windows 8 machine, in case that's relevant. Any ideas on what I should do?

    If you have a gamepad, please try unplugging it.
