    I thought it was a reference to John Donne's poem from the old times, could be wrong.

    Hemingway's book reference. Looking for interpretation is pointless imo. Quote just fits the situation.

    Yeah. People can differently interpret what it foreshadows to Chuck's character in hindsight, but I thought it was just a spur of the moment literary reference on his part. Showing he's well-read.

    The quote refers to asking for whom the funeral bell is tolling. The bell's ringing in Atlanta was potentially killing them. Hence, a fitting reference.
