    1. Carley. The reason it was the saddest for me was because I knew that now I'm gonna have to play the rest of the game without the most likable character other than Clementine. And I couldn't help but feel like it could have been easily avoided.
    2. Lee. Well, it's pretty obvious why it is sad. Normally, I would have put it at 1st, but since it was at the very end of the game, it didn't linger in the feels as long as Carley's did.
    3. Duck/Katja. Putting these two together, because they, well, died together. I never liked either character very much (didn't dislike them either), but it was sad to see them go nonetheless. With Carley, Duck and Katja wiped out all in one episode it left a huge gap in the human element of the group.
    4. Kenny (IF he died, which I strongly believe he did). Again, would have been sadder if it wasn't at the end of the game. Still, it felt hard not having him around in the final moments. With him gone, all the original members of the drugstore group perished, and I was left with Christa/Omid, who always felt part-strangers to me.
    5. Mark. It wasn't particularly sad, we barely knew the guy, but maybe that's what made it slightly sad in the first place. I liked his character, felt like he had potential, aaaaand he's gone.

    4. Katjaa - she always had high hopes, she gave up because she couldn't live without her son and Kenny was changing

^ This completely. I agree with this 100% though Carley and Lee are more of a joint 1st for me.

Well Doug/Carley were pretty much the only people that were always on Lee's side and it was sad to see them bite the dust .

5 Katjaa, I liked her, she was a good motherly figure for Clementine and was one of the nicest characters in the group, I felt sad for her.

4 Duck, I liked Duck from the beginning, him being a friend of Clementine helped and the Batman and Robin was just amazing, seeing him die slowly was quite sad.

3 Carley, I mean yes it was more shocking then sad the moment it happened, but just talking to Katjaa about it did make me cry a bit, just knowing that the most trustworthy person in the group was gone and won't ever be back, did hit me hard.

2 Kenny and Ben, Ben, surprising after having a hand in making a meme about him, but he kind of like me in a way, try's to help but makes the situation worse, he was a good kid who I do not blame for Carley, and he did not deserve the death he got, even if he was the worlds greatest screw up. Kenny was my best friend, in the most simple of words I could say is he was there for me from the beginning, I helped him because he was a nice guy, and he repayed me with help at every corner, we agreed on a lot of things, I was there for him in his darkest hour, and he was for me as well, he may or not be dead, I like to think he made it, but if not then he deserves a hero's rest for doing the right thing in the end.

1 Lee Everett, is this really a question, he was there from the beginning to the end a great character, one we all liked, to me he was a nice guy who killed a man accidentally, and through a long journey he he tried to redeem himself by keeping a little girl named Clementine alive through the apocalypse, because of him Clementine is still alive and breathing, something that would not have happened without Lee, and over those three months they became as close as you could be, father and daughter they became, and to know that Clementine will never see him alive again is just sad to think about.

Well this was my top five, I hope you liked it.

For me the saddest death was Lee because we were Lee and I was left feeling like I failed to protect clementine which was Lee's main motivation. Then the second saddest death to me was Clementine's parents because of how important it was for her to find them. Then I would say Duck because of the effect it had on Kat and Kenny. Even though I disliked Kenny at that point I still found myself comforting him in my first playthrough. In 4th place Kat because I really liked her and her suicide showed how sad she was. Carly was one of my favourite characters but when I reflect on my emotions when I first played that episode, I was more angry than sad. Her death was sudden, so there was a feeling of shock then fury which led me to leave Lilly on the road side in my first playthrough which was a knee jerk reaction because of my rage.

Well, I'll let Doug fans speak for him, but in Carley's case: sure, it was surprising, and THEN it became really sad when it sunk in that one of the most likable, morally good and, depending on how you play, closest to Lee person, is gone. And will be so for 2,5 more goddamn episodes. Well, it all boils down to how much you liked the character, really, but what I don't understand is what's there not to like? Not only does she serve as a secondary moral compass to Lee, in addition to having your back all the time no matter how you treat her, but if you count how many times she saved someone's life, including the times she saved the same person again, it amounts to a whooping total 13 life savings (Ben's pathetic life included, since she indirectly spared him Lilly's rage with her own death). So... yeah, at least I felt like we just lost a very valuable part of the group, which is why it's sad.

I agree, it's not the way they die, but rather just because of them.

Doug/Carley's death became sad as the game progressed.

Initially, too much bewilderment and anger and the Duck situation was distracting.
  • edited August 2013
The saddest, although sad doesn't really cut it, more like brutal and tragic, is letting Ben drop only to suffer his worst fear in being eaten alive. I don't care what a colossal fuck up he was - that was a dick move.

I saw the drop decision on youtube soon after my first playthrough. Thank fucking science I didn't drop him. I had considered it.

I thought of it, I just never thought it would be that bad.

I was naive enough to think broken neck/instadeath.
  • edited August 2013
It was naive of me to think that, but I saved him, and I am happy that I picked that choice.
  • edited August 2013
I dropped him and absolutely stand by that decision (IMO it had to be done, he was a danger to everyone), but i do wish he had died from the fall.
  • edited August 2013
I too saved him, but I'm considering to drop him in my second playthrough (which I am going to use for Season 2), simply because I don't really care how Ben ends up, but I'd rather Kenny's sacrifice actually meant something, which only does if he saves Christa. I still can't quite understand why he couldn't just shoot Ben and walk away with Lee. I mean, sure, the sacrifice was dramatic, but it felt completely unnecessary. It was essentially a suicide, which only undermines the "you don't just give up" speech he gave just minutes earlier.

But yeah, Ben's death by dropping is messed up. I too was expecting an instakill. But mind, that is BEFORE the point in the game where Lee finds out he fears getting eaten the most. Ignorance is a bliss?
  • edited August 2013
I would say that's the worst death in the game by far, I mean just imagine how much pain and fear Ben was in before he died, I would have felt so bad if I did it, my condolences to Rock you did it.
  • edited August 2013
Worst by the amount of suffering the character experienced before dying, yeah.

The worst deaths by... I dunno how to describe this, nature of death, maybe, to me would be Kenny's alleyway death and Carley's death, since both felt unnecessary and easily avoidable, which would have allowed me to spend more time with the characters I liked.
  • edited August 2013
I know that Carley's felt avoidable in the situation, but it was the most painless of any character in the game, instant death from behind, never even knew what had struck her, if that is any consolation prize.

Yeah, the sole consolation. I mean, had she lived past that point, there's a big chance she'd have met a far more gruesome end. Still, if I had a choice at that point, I would hop to the chance to have her around a while longer, no matter how she ends up eventually.
  • edited August 2013
I guess that is a way to look at Kenny's fate to, I mean if they bring him back they are just going to kill him for real, and make it more then likely worse then before, but I would trade almost anything to spend more time with my friends before they die, so yes I agree with that for both Carley and Kenny and any other friend that is now dead.
  • edited August 2013
Yeah, but meeting Kenny with a new protagonist would not be the same. Well, for me at least, since I'm an avid roleplayer in these sorts of games. Kenny was my Lee's bro, sure, but it's too early to say what his relationship with the new protagonist would be. Besides, I reaaaaally think it's a slim chance that Kenny got out of either scenario alive. I guess we'll see.
  • edited August 2013
I know it's slim, but that is what I want, just to talk to the guy even if he is not my bro, and I need to rebuild that relationship.

    5. Carley (episode 3): Her's was all the way at five, partially because it is too quick to really experience the sadness in the moment. It's just "What the fuck's the problem?" BANG! Granted Doug's happens similarly, but I'll get to that in a minute. I very much like how it's so quick that it kind of forces you to go, "Shit!" and make a decision, but eh, I don't know why, I just never liked Carley much.

4: Doug (episode 3): First off, Doug was far more interesting than Carley. He was a strange guy, and I liked him. He did nothing but try to be helpful, and even if he failed to at times, he tried. Towards his end, he felt useless. He did everything he could to help others, even if it meant his own death. Granted, this happened just as quickly as Carley's death, the after effect was far more intense. Instead of Katjaa's consoling words being, "OH YOU LIKED HER," she talked about the things Doug did, why he will be remembered, and how he was our friend.

3: Lee: I know this is a bit odd, Lee at 3, but honestly, I didn't really see Lee so much as his own real character until about halfway through episode three. I don't know why. Maybe I just felt he was an extension of the player, I don't know. Regardless, this gave me a lot less time to really get attached to Lee, but the ending was a bit torturous, less for Lee's suffering, and more for forcing me to watch a little, calm, smart, peaceful, idealistic 9 year old be faced with the death of both her real parents and her new guardian. Fucking telltale... You sadists.
(Disclaimer: I love telltale for making this masterpiece)

2: Kenny: Let me start off by saying, yes, Kenny is dead. His best chance of survival was if you saved Ben. If you let Ben die, though, Kenny shows he has at least 5 or so bullets, if you wait when you're supposed to pull Christa up with Omid, he'll drop five (if my memory serves) walkers with the gun that has "at least one bullet left." However, he doesn't uses only one bullet or two when you save Ben. Regardless, his death was the saddest, because aside from Clem, you grow most attached to him as you progress. He is the most dynamic character, and has two of the three sacrifices in the game. The third, going to our random-fact-man, Doug. Plus, in Christa's saving, he gets cut off mid sentence. That's just sad. :c

1: Duck: Out of everyone in the game, I only teared up at Duck's death. Regardless of how terrible of a voice actor he got, his death was the most tragic, especially if you let Katjaa take him out into the woods on her own. When Kenny goes out to get him, you watch his quick realization that he has lost everything. You only expect the death of Duck, but then his once hope-filled life, Katjaa, fears the death of her child is too much to bear, so she ends it herself. Then you watch as Duck watches his father lose it. Only to be shot in the head, or left to turn. Also, watching the hard fall of the macho family man, who's up for anything if it means protecting his loved ones is hard to watch as well.

I'm sorry but Carley's death was just as sad as Doug's . She was the only person who always sided with Lee and knew his secret and decided to trust even though he is a convicted murderer . When Carley died , i felt empty because she was the only adult who always helped Lee and pretty much Carley/Doug are the only people who Lee can trust . I don't have a problem with Doug fans , but it pisses me off when some say that " Whoever chooses Carley is a idiot " .

Well, he didn't exactly phrase it like that. It all boils down to preference, can't really argue about that. To me Carley seemed like the stronger character and her and Lee had more relationship and character building moments, resulting in a stronger connection, which is why her death felt sadder than Doug's. But that's just me.
