What Made the Character of Lee So Successful?

^Title.

1. His back-story. While many characters in games and movies have depressing back-stories, Lee's was never put into detail until the end of Episode 5. So many times we wondered "Why is he like this? Why so cautious and remorseful?"

2. He was a clean slate. When the apocalypse started, people changed and had to adapt to new forms of survival. With this, Lee still had his murdering past, but a new start.

3. He was who we wanted him to be. Lee said and did what we wanted to say. He could be a badass and stand up to Vernon, or he could be caring for Clementine, or a friend, a "survival of the fittest" guy, or an everyman.

That's why I think Lee was so successful.

He had enough characterization to keep him from being a non-entity but still had enough malleability to allow the player to decide what decisions would make him a sympathetic protagonist.

He had a strong cast of interesting characters to play off of, allowing meaningful relationships and rivalries to define him as a person. It was his relationship with Clementine and the others that truly fleshed Lee out for me.

And yes, quality voice acting doesn't hurt.

I mean it, I had no idea who Dave Fannoy was before Walking Dead, I do not even watch hulu, I only know him for Lee Everett, and that is good enough for me, I can already see myself is a retirement home saying stuff like when I was a kid we had good voice actors like Dave Fannoy and Troy Baker, not this emmo shit we have with Playstaion 17 and Ybox 7 with improved DRM, GODDMMIT BEN.

That voice. I downloaded the audiobook he did and damnit I can't recall a single word of it because you get lost in that gravely voice of awesome.

    Cough. Anyway.

He's a very easy character to project onto. Realistic, resourceful, and with *just* enough characterization to allow gripping story moments without alienating the player. It's very sad they had to kill him off.

Which audiobook was that, because now I feel like downloading it, even if I already read the book, and for the record I think I liked Lee even more then Rick, and I like Rick.

He sounds amazing no matter what you say, he puts so much work and emotion into it it's not a surprise that he cried at the end.

Well I guess he did look pretty cool for a comic book style character, and is arguably in the top ten coolest characters that Telltale has ever made.
