Please recommend your favorite adventure games

edited August 2013 in General Chat
Heya guys,

I have been playing a lot of adventure games since I was a kid but I am sure there are a lot of adventure games which I missed.

So I would like to ask you guys to please post your recommendations of adventures from the last 15 years or so which I should check out.

Any recommendations are welcome.

Btw my favorites are the Broken Sword series, almost all of the Lucas Arts games, I love the Ankh series, Toonstruck etc etc actually I really like a lot of adventures and it is rather difficult to choose which ones are best.

Please share your thoughts :-)

If you have a hard time choosing your favorites, how do you think we feel? :)

Problem is that some of the best adventures are not easily available in modern times.

I am currently replaying Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, it works with Scumm VM.

If you really want to find a game you will find it, Ebay, Steam or GOG.I am sure you can find any game you want to.

I am thinking of getting "The Longest Journey" and "Dreamfall" next, what do you think?

For modern games for a retro feel, I will not shut up about Jack Keane, so try that one. Also, Deponia (and its sequel, Chaos on Deponia) is a pretty good one to try as well.

The Longest Journey's an excellent game and I highly recommend it. The sequel... not so much.

The Blackwell series no doubt is my favorite. I mean, the games aren't really that hard, anybody with even a bit of patience can finish them without too much help. The story is great, but not really that special. I think the main reason it's my favorite is because the protagonist has red hair and wears glasses.

    No, that's definitely my reason.

In the last 15 years (of the games I've played so far... I have a huge backlog), I'd have to say:
    Grim Fandango
    Tales of Monkey Island
    The Shivah
    Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures
Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space
    Metal Dead
The Journey Down (only one episode out of four is out, but it's already amazing)
Fester Mudd (ditto on the one episode out of four, but episode 1 is great)
The Dream Machine (again, only four episodes out of six are out, but what's available is excellent)

And Host Master and the Conquest of Humor (a short, free flash game starring Tim Schafer (co-creator of Monkey Island 1&2 and Day of the Tentacle, and creator of Full Throttle, Psychonauts, Brutal Legend, and Double Fine Happy Action Theater - plus co-writer of many of Double Fine's games like Costume Quest, Stacking, etc.) that has a bunch of funny references to his games up to and including Brutal Legend).

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up. :D

I'm off to play it now!

Chapter 4 had a couple of really cool puzzles too. I was genuinely stumped for a while, and I'm glad I played it before there were any walkthroughs out to tempt me. Overall the chapter was a tad bit short though.

Hmm... I'm pretty sure some of my faves are on this list already... what hasn't been mentioned yet? Oh, Return to Zork and all of The Journeyman Project.

Argh! I forgot Quest For Glory 2! It has the Marx Brothers in it in appropriate roles!

At this point I may be perverting the term "favorite", or at least extending the umbrella over "games I find really interesting that people have largely forgotten about".

    One of my all-time favorites:
King's Quest 4: The Perils of Rosella

    Above is unused cover art.

Also, anyone who is anyone would play all of the wonderful, free AGDI KQ remakes.

I just finished it and I really liked it too. It didn't really feel shorter than the other chapters to me though. They've all felt about the same length in my opinion (probably because they have all some really wonderful out-of-the-box style puzzles, especially chapter four - there were some really good head scratchers here).

I really liked the intro with the subtle joke about how long it took the episode to release. It reminded me of the beginning of Bone: The Great Cow Race when they joked how short the last game was. I just love little touches like that. :)

Elder Scroll series including skyrim, The Last of Us, Uncharted series, and well anything that involves adventure and action. Ha ha

The difference is that those are more action than adventure. ;)

Still Life It's a point & click horror/adventure with a great story! The graphics are kind of outdated and the ending is rather bizzare but I would definitely reccomend it if you like adventure games.
