Who has lost more?

edited August 2013 in The Walking Dead
While coming up with matchups for Show VS. Game. I remembered two people who have one HUGE thing in common. Kenny and Rick both lost their wives. Both cried and sobbed but... who really displays it better? Rick with his cold attitude and fury? Or Kenny with depression and distant emotions?

In my opinion, Kenny portrayed a man who lost his wife ALOT better. To be fair though, he also lost his son, but lets remember the moment that ultimately gets him is when he finds Katjaa killed herself (Also I recommend doing everything in your power to get kenny to not go into the woods with Katjaa, for her reveal of when she illed herself is ALOT ore shocking). So yea, Kenny made more sense in my opinion. Not only did he lose his wife, but he and the group were on the road. Ricks group still had the safety of the prison for Rick to cope with the stress, but Kenny immediately had to go back to work. Not to mention... well... am I the only one who thought Rick was going to start making fun of Carl when Lori died? Oh well, ill leave it to you guys.

We're talking about show Rick here? Then I'd say him over Kenny. Sure, he still has his immortal son, but after Lori died, he was depressed for over half a season. He ran around the prison looking for ghost Lori without days of sleep while the group had to lead themselves.

Sure, Kenny was depressed, but let's look at him from episodes 3-5. Episode 3 was when he completely broke down. He seemed on edge in episode 4, arguably getting to his normal state when finding the boat. In episode 5, depression mostly turned into anger at Vernon/Ben.

Rick had less lost than Kenny, but he was more depressed, and for a longer period of time.

Rick still has his son (kind of) even though he is turning cold and Rick got a new daughter so Kenny has it worse especially when is is most likely dead.

Yes I first though Rick was making fun of Carl! "Oh you Lost your Mommy? Wah Wah!". :D

Do you think Rick is a weaker character then Kenny Mentally anyways?

Yes. I think that Rick is weaker mentally than Kenny. Kenny had his spirits up as soon as he found a boat, which was just one episode. After that, he more or less stayed stable. Rick took half a season to get over his depression.

Rick spiraled into stuff 'n things. He lost his wife and for a period, his mind. Dangerous thing to have compromised when you're the group leader.

Hm, well yes, Id say for the long term period of time, ick is more broken. However during the moment of death? Give Kenny's animators, voice actor, and write, a freaking OSCAR for that moment.

I know, and the Oscar for best supporting actor goes to... Gavin Hammon for Kenny, the Walking Dead.

Oh I think Kenny shows more in a twitch of his 'stache and a declaration of "FUCK", than Rick does in his most dramatic of moments (perhaps save for his Noooooooo + collapse piece). I like Andrew Lincoln and what's he's brought to his character, but Ken's my guy.

    Yeah I agree.

Rick has lost more. Kenny never saw his son become a victim of apocalypse fever. (A killing machine)

i think in a lot of ways kenny would rather his son be a monster than dead, but yeah both are pretty bad

Kenny definitely lost a lot more, since he lost a kid too. I'm not sure which is the most realistic portrayal, but Kenny would have definitely been the easier person to be around. I have not read the comic, but I do watch the show, and Rick really started losing his sense of reality for a while there, which never happened to Kenny. I'm not sure that either ever really became dangerous to their groups, but I think that it was worse with Rick, since he was the leader of the group, and Kenny was not really.

At least Rick has the (small) possibility of pulling Carl back from the edge. Kenny will never get that chance.

As for the topic, I think Kenny did show it better. The alcoholism was a nice touch in Episodes 4 and 5, and up until they found the boat I was just waiting for him to eat a bullet. I thought he was going to in the attic, and again when there weren't any boats by the river.

I'll begrudgingly give you your earlier Frank Zappa comment though.

why did you have to go and ruin the good name of Butthead with a comment like that?

And then he prooves just how strong he is mentally by giving a great speech on how suicide is not the option he plans to go to.

Here are some examples, since I have YouTube videos coming outta my ass:

    Kenny: http://youtu.be/cZl8vjGp0Vw
    http://youtu.be/igPVXI07Kms

    Rick: http://youtu.be/nSROZPwu-Ag (skip to 0:40)

I think Kenny lost more. Sh*t he lost his entire family, and still people were cruel to him in let's plays, they never cut him any slack!

If they decide to show Kenny surviving in season 2 I hope they show him shortly after Lee has died, where he makes his final sacrifice in a way that's crucial for Clementine getting out of the city.
