Grendel's Eye

Does anyone know the significance of Grendel's eye? The first time we see him, outside the Mayor's office, he has two normal eyes. The second time we see him, in the bar, one of his eyes is blind. There's nothing in the original Beowulf story about his eye (that I recall). Could this have something to do with the mystery? Perhaps, the Grendel outside the Mayor's office isn't really Grendel?

    Just like Bigby's eyes turns yellow when he looses control, Grendel's eyes turn white.

    You could tell he was really angry when he was at the bar, maybe he was 1/4 of his Fable form causing the eye to be white?
