I like the Walking Dead Telltale Game. I don't really like the Walking Dead TV show.
The former is largely well written and involves you in its characters. The latter is a complete mess riddled with plot holes and has a large number of characters who behave in ways that are inconsistent and, frankly, idiotic (lookin' at you, Andrea).
I read here that Season 2 of the game might have some crossover with the TV show. I have to admit that unnerves me slightly. I prefer the two stories to remain largely separate. I mean, didn't they clarify that the game is taking the comics as canon anyway?
Anyone else have this view, or am I alone?

The TV Show is what first brought me into the walking dead universe, without that, I would have never given any other walking dead material a try. For that, I am pretty damn happy. I love the TV Show. I can't decide which I like better between the comics and the game. I think they are all great in their own ways. I am happy that Season 2 will be having some TV Show characters in the mix.
I do like the crossovers as well. Like in Episode 1 - A New Day, We see Shawn who got bitten. Hershel then puts him in the barn (Which we don't see) and then in the show later on when Rick's group discovers Hershel's farm, Maggie is talking to Glenn and begins to name all the walkers in the barn. She mentions Shawn.
Another thing, At the end of a new day, Glenn says that he has to go to atlanta to meet up with his friends. We see that he has successfully met up with them in the TV Show when he helps Rick in Atlanta in the first few episodes of season 1.
I love all that. I do like however how the characters who are in the game look more like their comic counterpart rather than the TV Show version.
My theory that Woodbury will be introduced in Season 2 also makes me believe that we will get to see the governor, but obviously before he loses his eye or before he meets Rick's group. Or maybe we'll get to meet him between the gap between season 3 and 4 of the show. Maybe that's when Season 2 of the game will take place.
I remember that the first episode of the game takes place while Rick is in the coma. I like how all this connects, yet it's alot different from each other. I'm glad to see that they are going to be adding TV show characters to the mix. I disagree with what you had to say, but you aren't alone. I've seen plenty of people who like the game and don't like the show.
I agree with you, the TV Show is a mess, the characters are flat and Carl is the most annoying kid character EVER

The TV show IS LAME.
I didn't like the show. It was boring and characters were annoying. Then I played the game. I fell in love. Waiting for second season was hard so I gave the show another chance. Now it's better. Game saved the show, imo.
I really recommend comics - more interesting and shocking then tv series.
Yes. Unfortunately, Andrea from the show was dumber than Duck.
Game is awesome.
Show is awesome.
I don't really have any concerns about potential crossovers. If it happens it happens and if it doesn't happen then that's okay too.
I have to agree, I prefer the Walking Dead game over the Walking Dead TV show. I felt more invested and more connected to the cast in the game than the TV series.
It's not that I don't like watching the show, since it does have its good moments, but some scenes were pretty difficult to take seriously thanks to poor writing and suffering from either poor or non-existant characterization (Andrea and T-Dog springs to mind).
I'm one of the people who only looked into the AMC series after playing the game. I don't hate the show, to be honest I think a few of the story variations from the comic are improvements, but the game's easily been my favorite piece of Walking Dead media, and I prefer it to stand on its own.
I definitely prefer the game over ANY other iteration of TWD. I left the AMC series after the abomination of the season 3 finale. The whole show was just practically bad writing as well as fodder for Daryl fans. I loved the first season, as well as the first half of season two, though. Anyone who's watched season 4, how well does it tie in to the comics? And should I bother coming back?
Comic spoilers: I also left the comics at issue 100. While the comics were great, my favorite character's death (Abraham) was a few issues earlier, and that REALLY put me off of reading. I just pretty much read because of habit to issue 100. After Glenn's death in issue 100, I left the comics because I didn't really care about ANY other characters. I also hated how Kirkman painted Carl as the immortal survivor who will obviously be the last one standing at the end of the series run.
The game is the only thing holding me onto the TWD fandom.
^^^^^ THIS THIS THIS THIS 1000 TIMES THIS.
Edit; I didn't look at the new comments before I posted. So, my reply was to Zeruis. XD Sorrrry.
Comic wise, nothing has really happened, but there is a small hint in season 4 for the tie in with the game. One of the girls is looking at a map and she sees Macon.
I've never actually read the comics, and I doubt I ever will. For me, the zombie apocalypse has been almost completely run into the ground as a premise at this point, turned into a monument to milking a phenomenon until its udders turn black and fall off. I originally ruled out the Walking Dead Telltale game precisely because I couldn't stand more friggin' zombies, and only changed my mind after many glowing reviews.
I'm glad I changed my mind, and I eagerly look forward to Season 2, but my enjoyment of the series is largely in spite of the overused premise. I have no real taste for getting involved in more zombie stuff outside of it, including anything else Walking Dead unless its done as well as the Telltale game, which I get the sense it usually isn't.
Season four is actually really cool so far. Focuses on the zombies more just like season 1
Honestly? I like the game more than the tv show
I disliked the show before the game, but after becoming more invested in the franchise I'm a rather hardcore fan. I loathe Carl, though. He led to the death of my favorite character spoiler alert for season 2 of the show seriously don't read Dale.
I used to hate the show, seasons 2 & 3 were the worst piece of television I have ever seen. I would watch the show just so I can laugh at the bad writing, stupid characters, etc. However, I'm impressed with this season so far. The first couple of episodes are better than all of the previous seasons combined. Did they fire the writers or something? If they keep up the good work, I might become a fan of the show!
But I agree, The Game > Everything Else.
Im afraid I disagree. Im a fan of the game and a big fan of the show. The show is what brought me into the Walking Dead universe. Four seasons of episodes require more commitment than 5 episodes of a video game plus it has to adhere to the source material more than the game which, except for the very basics, can go pretty much on its own. Still, I dont really compare them favorably or unfavorably to each other. They are all different ways to experience the Walking Dead Universe. I love them both, although Im more invested in the show.
I really dont see them crossing over the show with the game. Why would they? The game is comic based only.
I like all 3.
BUT, I hope they don't cross the game with the tv show. It just wouldn't work IMO. I do, however, hope more of the characters from the comics move into the tv show. Nice to see Tyrese in this new season, and I heard Abraham is there, too.
It would be neat to see little nods in all three to the other three. Example, maybe Glenn could mention a crazy group of people he helped out in Macon, or the TV show would go past a railroad crossing and see the RV. Little things like that would be cool.
I finished the first compendium of the comics, the first 48 issues. I really, REALLY don't want Clementine to encounter the Governor
Also, I hope Carol dies a horrible death. The actress is annoying as hell. The character is an evil cunt.
The game has something of an advantage over the comic and TV show, in that not even the central protagonist is "safe". He/she might have plot armour up to a certain point, but by the fifth episode, all bets are usually off.
Then again, Telltale could try to up the ante by killing the protagonist halfway through episode 3 of season 2, but there's a difference between being ballsy and just going for temporary shock value. It's a dangerous tightrope to walk, no doubt about it.
*****SPOILERS*****
I enjoyed the show immensely until late season 2. It just got too sedentary. It seems like the main characters are invulnerable now. The only one they killed recently was SPOILER Dont read - Andrea and I hated her anyway. The game had no problems killing off main characters, which most good zombie movies do. I have been getting bored with the show lately. I think they need to get back on the road. I like to see them out and fighting walkers for supplies and dealing with other groups of people. At the prison there is no action really. Also the Woodbury people bring nothing to the show IMO.
If killing main characters is the only measure of a good show, then I'm glad the Walking Dead isn't a good show. The prison has been interesting because of the internal conflict it's setting up in light of the flu spreading among the people.
As for why the show won't kill Rick and why the game won't kill the protagonist midway through the game, it's because in storytelling you lose forward momentum that way. Not even the comic kills him. Why? Because the role of the central protagonist is to move a narrative forward. Above all else, he is designed to move it forward. It's why he can be overshadowed by antiheroes and new characters while still remaining critical to the plot. He is the body the audience inhabits in the story.
I had a super hard time getting into the TV show. With the game, I just jumped in and fell in love with it, but I get more attached to games than TV shows anyway.
I think the two are very different and can't be really compared. While yeah they have the same general concept, they both have vastly different approaches, in my opinion. I like the show, but I do like the game far more.
Rigtail, as the only other person here who seems to actually appreciate the show, I thought you'd like to know, if you dont already, that its been renewed for season 5. They must be doing something right.
I have said before that it's not the zombie premise that drew me to the game. Telltale was my introduction to the Walking Dead, but I didn't look into it until I heard all of the recommendations concerning characterization.
I checked out the show and comics afterwards hoping to find a similar level depth, but neither really hit the same emotional spark for me.
you're kidding, right? you prefer this "the superflu will get us all"-shit over season 2 & 3?
I don't mind one or two making their way into the game so long as it's done well for those -like me- that don't watch the show or read the comic. I liked both Shawn and Glen and had no idea they were already existing characters in the show/comic.
I've tried to watch the show but I just can't get into it. What sold the game to me was the description the game was given. I love choice and consequence games but I'm not really a fan of zombie games as more often than not there shooter games but I took a risk and downloaded the demo for free and I was hooked!
If it ever crosses over. I hope its not canon to eachother.
Like Lee showing up in the tv show still alive
or a tv-show comic counterpart showing up in the game.
I really really dont want the games canonicity too t he comic being ruined cause someone in charge of the project is stupid and angry that andrea in the show is dead.
Am i the only one who thinks that the governor in the comic looks really unrealistic and shitty, whilst the TV show is 10x more realistic? I mean, obviously it's recorded in real life and not drawn, but i mean, just look at that comic, just... no.
