'Walking Dead' can't complete setup & won't open

Hello.

I downloaded 'The Walking Dead: Season One" but can't open it. If I click on 'WalkingDead100_V3_Setup' I get up to:

"Installing Microsoft(R) DirectX(R)

DirectX Setup
Install DirectX runtime components

Installing components:
Initializing"

Then this:
"DirectX Setup
Setup could not download the file. Please retry later or check network connection."

And finally:

"Installation end
Installation failed."

This happens every time.

If I click on the game icon, I get the following error message:

"WalkingDead101.exe- System Error

The program can't start because d3dx9_41.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

My computer is a PC with Windows 8.1

I'd really appreciate it if someone could explain to me what all this means and how to sort it out so that the game works, or failing that if you could cancel/refund payment for it. Thanks.

During installation the game tries to update DirectX. This seems to fail because of network connection issues.
Please download and install the latest DirectX redistributable.

Thanks, but that's made no difference; exact same problem. Thanks anyway.

That's weird. Did it show any error message?

Yeah, same as before:

"DirectX Setup Setup could not download the file. Please retry later or check network connection." and "The program can't start because d3dx9_41.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

That's odd. Did you get the first one while installing the DirectX redistributable?

I suggest you try installing the game during a clean boot.

Booting clean in Windows 8:
1. At the start screen, type in "msconfig" and press enter
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Load Startup Items
4. Select the Services tab
5. Check Hide all Microsoft services
6. Click Disable all
7. If running the game on Steam, re-check the "Steam Client Service"
8. Click on OK
9. Click Restart.
10. After reboot, try installing the game to see if it works.

After performing the necessary steps, restore your settings by doing the following:

1. Click Start --> Type msconfig --> Press Enter
2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
3. Click Ok
4. Click Yes, when asked to restart your computer
