Losing save data between ep 4 and 5

Hey there. Having a bit of a problem playing The Walking Dead.
I should be at episode 5 chapter 2, but the game recognises me to be at episode 4. If I try to go ahead and select episode 5, the game will prompt that I'll get randomized choices for the part in between. Then I figured I'd try from episode 4 and the game now asks me if I want to rewind and lose the progress made after that. If I decline at this option, the game goes to a black screen and crashes. If replaying the content is an option I don't mind, but I'm afraid I'll damage(?) the save data further if I do. Help would be much appreciated as I can't wait to finish the game!

    Please rename the prefs.prop in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default
    to prefs.prop.bak to deactivate it.

    My save got fixed and I finished the game now!
    Now I just need to find these ninjas cutting these onions..
