Why are reatilers not selling Steam version of Telltale games anymore?

edited December 2013 in General Chat

Just wondering why this shift? I hate having games that require different download portals and other things. I have gotten used to steam and it's where I have the majority of my games and prefer to get my pc games from them, it's just easier to keep track of.

Previous Telltale games, like Back to the Future, The Walking Dead Season 1, etc were redeemable through steam and most stores that sold the games (greenmangaming, gamersgate, gamefly, etc) offered the "Steam" version when you purchased themt here.

However with The Wolf Among us almost every retailer gave out keys for use only through Telltale's own website/download, rather then a Steam key.

It seems that is also the case with The Walking Dead 2, unless you buy it directly via STeam you are most likely geting stuck with this.

This is a pain for those of us that like to shop around for deals, as Steam isn't known for having good pre order sales (they are good at the christmas sales and others though), but when it comes to new games other retailers usually have good deals.

It would just be a heck of a lot more convient and easier if we could make the choice ourselves to redeem the key here or steam either.

  • Telltale is going down a more self-publishing route, which is why they (and others) are selling their own version of the game.

I understand your frustration, but at the end of the day they have made the game and they can decide to sell it however they like.
