How to bring Kenny back in a way that would satisfy everyone

edited December 2013 in The Walking Dead

(For the record, this idea has already been suggested by someone else, and I apologize for not remembering who.)

We reach a pivotal moment in episode 2 (or 3, or 4) when a character from the new group we've come to know intimately is being attacked by walkers within an enclosed area. Only Clem has the means of saving him/her from certain death. At first, it looks like an easy rescue.

And then...BOOM. A haggard and dishevelled Kenny being chased by walkers comes running out from another door, hole, alley, etc. Upon seeing Kenny, Clem is too shocked to even move. Now the player has to choose before the walkers eat both: A face from the past, or a friend for the future?

IMO, this would be the most ideal way of bringing back Kenny. It would crank the "HOLY SHIT" surprise factor of his return to the max, while allowing the player the option to save Kenny or leave him for dead, depending whether the player wants to see more of Kenny, or if he/she preferred he'd die back in Savannah.

This scenario could have great dramatic potential for the following episode as well. If we're to follow the game's story pattern that saving a character is only giving them a temporary stay of execution, then Kenny would still be able to play a major part in the next episode, filling in for the other deceased character (we'd get to see how he'd interact with the new cast, catch up with Clementine, so on and so forth) before ultimately being killed in some fashion at the chapter's climax.

The scripts for the rest of the season are probably set in stone by this point, but I still hope Telltale does something like this with Kenny, as it would permit him to leave an impact on season 2 while also fulfilling the obligations of WD's fictional reality.
