Yeah you can finish it, didn't notice on my first playthrough because I just took a sip inbetween each action. But on my second I kept drinking it before I applied the bandages and it ran out after an extra drink.
I never get the juice box, because I like it when Clem says "Screw you guys" after she's done patching herself up and they come to check on her. I think if you take the juice box from Alvin you can't get this line, so I never do.
