How to Survive

Being a fan of The Walking Dead, something has often occurred to me regarding ways to survive if the zombie apocalypse were to happen.
That is underground nuclear bunkers. Surely loads of survivors could hole up in those for years. Now I don't know about America, but here in the UK there are literately dozens of nuclear bunkers, some that are still in use today. They have their own power supply, water, food, communications and medical facilities. With the strength of these places, I very much doubt Walkers could force their way in. Same can be said for any bandits wandering around.
Has there been any instance where any of these bunkers have been found in The Walking Dead world? Would certainly be a good option if such places were to exist where Clementine is. There is such a place near me, so if the worse did happen I know where I would go.

  • You couldn't stay in there forever though, It would only be temporary.

  • Imagine if they started to give out rules after a while, like what happened to Crawford.

  • Temporary yes, but a very long temporary.

Rules are necessary to maintain order, Crawford just took it too far with their ''survival of the fittest'' philosophy.

  • Those places have air vents galore, and they all lead up to the surface. If bandits were smart, they could smoke everyone out of there from the surface.

  • It would probably end up like Crawford, You wouldn't want any sick people in a confined area like that.

  • A place like that? The other living people will pay attention to it and will attack. Those places are just targets, move as much as you can.

  • True, and that could make for an interesting story. But also the bandits would have to know about the bunker, know where all the vents were, and have the power to take it once the doors flew open. Still a better survival plan than finding a boat in a boatless city.

  • This. People always go after the well guarded/well secured areas. It would definitely fall eventually, just by the sheer amount of people that would want to get in there.

  • How would people know about it? Most major bunkers (at least in the United States) are kept extremely secret.

  • Right.

And as soon as the apocalypse broke out would be occupied by military/government personnel. You ain't getting in there.

  • And after a while the district starts run out of food and supplies, you always need to go further to get something.Thats why bad idea to stay in one place.

  • the bunkers would be given priority to government officials and then probably sealed off - think Terminator 3 at the end. Large spaces for a small amount of people. In a zombie apocalypse the people that know about bunkers would run to them straight away and then seal them off because you would always be worried people you let in could be infected or a liability

  • There is a very low chance that most bunkers are open for the dwelling, and even bunkers would be overrun eventually given an unfortunate mischance. Nobody can hide forever, unless they want to starve to death. I'd personally prefer a houseboat or a trawler yacht.. travelling the cross-country shore (but even that could be dangerous)... either that or i'll just stick to land, live stealthy and move constantly.

  • What if episode 3 "In Harm's Way" actually happens in a bunker? :O
