I just realised that anyone who messes with clem's hat ends up dead soon after.
Jolene takes hat, is shot in first scene shes in
Stranger causes loss of hat... Gets killed in first scene he's in
Michelle tries to take hat... Gets killed in first scene shes in
Even Lee gets bit the moment he picks up the hat.... maybe Clems dad put a curse on it?

maybe it's like the pistol from brothers in arms series. anyone who touches it besides the owner meets their fate?
Clem probably let Ben try the hat on.That's how it got cursed .
Or Larry could have let some of his Charm get on it...you know...the one out of his ass? I think that might have been it.
