Deleted comments - the site has been messing around lately

edited January 2014 in The Walking Dead

People have been wondering about this. Some comments are just missing on several threads. I wonder if this is just temporary or permanent. It is very disconcerting as some of us work on a common fanfic or have serious discussions.

Edit:
Statement by moderator @Darth_Marsden regarding this issue:

At the moment the web team haven't gotten back to us regarding this, but we'll be pushing for information about it ASAP.
The fact that several posts in the thread discussing posts going missing have themselves gone missing is absolutely insane. We'll definitely be chasing this. HARD.

And @Chris_Madisun

Anyway, this confirms that the random post deleting is NOT confined to posts made by mods - it happens to everyone. As such, I (or rather, Darth Marsden) would like to re-emphasize that for the time being, PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO INDIVIDUAL POSTS.
Use the 'Add Comment' button at the bottom of the page to ensure your post is not accidentally eaten by the site.
Apologies for the problems - we're still trying to chase up the web team to get an answer to why this is happening and how long it will take to fix. We won't stop until we get it sorted though, so please bear with us.

  • Probably something that has to do with the forum being updated as some say.

Unfortunately, it does appear to be a glitch with the latest site update. The web team are aware of it and should be looking into it as we speak. Or type. You know what I mean.

If you could point out specific threads where posts are missing, then I think we can get them restored. Plus it'd be handy for bugtesting.

Don't know if it helps but the missing comments can be seen in the feed of your profile but not in the thread itself

  • Few of mine got deleted what bug fix does that really suspicious always the ones deleted by me seem to be the interaction with the moderators on comments i may be wrong just an opinion or opinions that go against moderators opinion probably wrong but not sure

  • Any news regarding this issue?

  • Nothing yet I'm afraid. The fact it's the weekend probably doesn't help.

After a bit of experimentation, we think we've found the problem - posts only seem to get eaten when you're responding to a comment that already has layered responses.

So for the time being, we're asking people not to reply to individual comments to see if that helps things.

  • Man ain't that something LOL something always going wrong over at Telltale.

  • This is crazy!

If I had to venture a guess, I'd actually say that the glitch causing posts to disappear may be exclusive to mod accounts. Nevertheless, Darth has good advice since we don't know for sure yet.

I've noticed it occurring whenever a user comments on a layered comment. Afterwards, all/some of the previous comments on the same layer as the new response would disappear. I think responding to a top layered comment should be fine, but be careful when responding to a lower layered comment.

  • The bandits are deleting and stealing the comments. We must hurry and protect the camp!!!

  • edited January 2014

So I guess we just sit and wait for Telltale to fix it. You know, I really miss the old forum.

Looks like a good time to post this again.

  • As Blind Sniper implies, we've been testing this out on our own and it's DEFINITELY to do with nested comments. We're unsure if it's specifically to do with us being mods or not, so the next few posts will actually be by an alt account of mine made specifically to try and trigger it.

Please don't respond to any posts by Chris Madisun. Thanks.

  • That's Chris_Madisun, thank you very much.

    Anyway. Test Post #'1.

    Test Post 1.2

EDIT: Hey, what happened to Test Post 1.1.2.2.1? Aw man, I liked that one!

  • Not sure it's any help but my feed is saying there's a few posts from @Chris_Madisun but I'm only seeing 2 in the actual thread.

  • edited January 2014

Yep - I actually made a whole bunch of posts as Mr Madisun (not kidding when I mention 1.1.2.2.1 - that's how far I went to test the thing), and the vast majority of them got eaten.

So... yeah. It's DEFINITELY to do with nested comments, so again, PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO INDIVIDUAL POSTS FOR THE TIME BEING.

  • Does anybody know if this problem still occurs?

  • Still does, I'm afraid. We'll try to give you an update when we can.

  • geez I leave for a week and the site goes to hell. well no info on episode 2 of twd so I guess I came here for what I wanted.

  • It's been fixed. Now I'm going to close the thread.

No posts affected by the glitch were deleted, they were only hidden from view.
