Theory: "You're Caver, what do you do?"

edited January 2014 in The Walking Dead

If we learned anyting from Season 1, it is that Telltale does not waste time by including ANYTHING without an important reason. This includes things we see AND dialogue.

EX: Danny St. John made the bear traps without release hatches. We didn't notice this is important until we found out about the cannibalism that SOMETHING STRANGE IS LEFT IN THE WOODS BY THE ANTAGONIST.

EX: Larry talks about coins in his pocket and they are only relevant when Lee needs them to unscrew some screws.

EX: Lee can be angry with Vernon and say that ANYONE who comes between Lee and Clemintine is going to end up dead. Those of us who played the NEXT episode know that yes, he does end up dead one way or another.

That being said, I think I've pieced something togethor. Let's go back to before Clem met ANY new characters and came across the campsite and this interesting little setpiece.

Now let's skip ahead to the end of the episode and they have discovered the massacre.

At no point do either Pete or Nick think that Carver killed the people. They know him a lot better than we do at the moment.

Think about this and the factors:

  1. A sign can be very difficult to remove and can take a lot of time. That means someone had to take the time to remove the sign, and it couldn't have been a snap descision to fend off an approaching walker.
  2. The sign is going through the walker's head into the ground. That means the walker had to have already been down on the ground and on it's back. Normal? I don't think so.

Theory: Carver came across the walker pinned to the ground with the sign and put it out of it's misery. He was intercepted by...something and didn't make it to the campsite. That's why the walker with the knife in his shoulder is still moving.

Biggest thing: Carver did NOT cause the FUBAR at the end of the episode.

Notice how the object Pete is holding is actually a makeshift spear. Remember episode four's slide with the Ritual style thing?

Coincidence, I think not.

That's my theory, but please try to put some thought into this. I do not think that I am 100% accurate, so please try to help with this.

  • Isn't that Winston's spear?

  • Sorry, had some trouble with the images. All fixed now.

  • Very good eye!

Why did HE have a spear?

  • I'm pretty sure that Carver IS responsible for the river shootout, because the Cabin group is worried about Carver finding them. When Clem is coming to right after Luke and Pete take her to the cabin, one of Rebecca's main concerns is that she's working for Carver, which is the main reason Rebecca gives for shooting Clem. They also say a few things about Carver at the House Meeting when Clem sneaks in, and they say something about moving on before he finds them again.

  • If Carver was that homicidal why did Pete and Nick not say that it could have been him?

This kinda makes me wonder why Carver would do something like this, i mean if he's really that dangerous then, why did the cabin group accepted him at all in the first place, was he always like this or did someone pushed him this way?

  • Because it has great reach, can be used for multiple things, and doesn't require any ammunition. It's a great weapon AND tool :)

  • Maybe carver was always a killer but didn't show it until he was maybe forced to kill a bunch of people in front of them and after that he couldn't stop killing

Carver could end up being like Negan from the comics, Maybe the cabin group where with a larger group and ran away or they owe some sort of debt to Carver which Troy and Johnny want to collect and have been searching for them and finally found them, That could be why so many people fear Carver.

If anyone has read the comics you will know why people could fear him so much.

  • No one ends up as Negan. Negan is perfection, no one can ever reach his level, especially not some guy called Carver.
