I'd like to point out that Telltale is canon to the comics, not the TV show, so all of those references were to the comics.
As for cross references... I think it's possible that we could meet some of the people form Alexandria before Rick and his group got there. Maybe meet someone like Alexander Davidson as an antagonist, since he was only a villain "off-panel" in the comics, you never actually see him.
