Acutally it really was, that's why Hershell looked like that and Glenn and Lilly appeared in it, but after the Lilly mess up Telltale said they would talk to Kirkman and the writers from the tv show to make the game connect with the tv show... And that would make Lilly a whole new different charatcher with an all new story in front of her, Glenn the Glenn from tv and Hershell that same hershell from tv that got a lot fatter in a few months and then lost all the weight again (wich is kind off possible...)
They mean they want to bring in TV series character or areas for crossovers but it's in the comic world. I think they said TV series to draw attention for the TV audience or TV exclusive characters who could be in the comic world, just not with Rick and his group

As I know, TWD game is inspired by comic books NOT the TV show.
Btw, for my it is Game > Comic > TV show. Rated by story.

I've said it before, I would prefer for the different versions of the series to remain in their own canon.
Telltale has their own way of writing characters, we don't need to force crossovers just for the sake of fan-service.
