Ep1 S2 vs Ep1 S1

edited February 2014 in The Walking Dead

So , what you guys think it was better ?

the first episode of Season 1 or the first episode of Season 2 ?

can we expect another GOTY ? :P

PS: Am I the only one thinking that Luke is the new Lee ? :P

  • I think that S1 ep1 was little bit better than S2 ep1. There was more "free roaming" in S1 ep1.

  • Mostly because it was still made in old TTG style, with still a lot of focus on puzzles.

  • I guess the Season one EP1 was better. We could relax and get to know the characters a bit more, talk to them at will, etc etc.

Season two EP1 felt a little rushed. I loved the running away from Winston scene though. The music there was really intense!

  • yeah .. same opinion . i think the S1 was better , but didnt have action scenes like in S2 :)

I preferred "a new day" to "all that remains". I think it had better pacing and It enabled me to form a quicker attachment to the characters. I cared about saving Carly because of what we had endured together by that point of the episode. She had saved my life and the rest of the group, We had bonded and we had cleared the motor inn of walkers together. When it came to saving Pete over nick I was happy to play out both scenarios just to see how they played out. I didn't struggle with my choice. I didn't feel the same level of attachment to the characters I had just met in "all that remains" as I did to the characters I had just met in "a new day". I can't help but wonder how the episode would have been if the same members of the telltale team were working on it that put "a new day" together. I thought "a new day" was mind blowing and emotional for an opening episode, scenes like when Lee listened to the voice message from Clem's mother, Lee and Clem in the drug store office and Lee reminiscing about his parents, seeing his dad's cane and the tv remote, etc. "All that remains" didn't have any of those moments, IMO. It just didn't hit me on that same level. I forgot about Omid's death by the time reached the cabin and I didn't feel the loss of Christa. I hadn't seen these characters for a year, since the last time I played no time left, then I see them again in"all that remains" for about 5-10 minutes. I think the episode had some good moments in it but it didn't blow me away like "a new day" did when I finished it.

It will be interesting to see "how a house divided" compares to "starved for help" which was another awesome episode.

  • S1E1 was faaaaar better than S2's hour-and-a-half extremely linear rushed episode

  • A New Day by a mile, for me. We needed to establish Clem as our protagonist and introduce us to this new group. All That Remains did a good enough job on the former, but not so much on the latter. I expected at least two scenes more to get to know these people.

Clem was completely alone for most of the episode and it kind of suffered for it, since this series' strong suit is in character/group dynamics in a world gone to shit. I do not blame this on Clementine as a character, imagine almost a whole episode with Lee alone; it wouldn't be as engaging, no matter how much we loved Lee.

  • I have to go with Episode 1 from Season 2 , It felt much more action packed and had a darker feel to it which added to the fact we were playing as a little girl, Episode 1 from Season 1 was too slow in my opinion and got boring after the whole Drugstore argument

  • What he said...Season1 Episode1 was a slow starter, so people get used to the game and get to know the characters.

Season2 Episode1 on the other hand was a very action packed and emotional experience. It was very short, but i enjoyed every single minute of it!

  • I like A New Day much better because it was a great intro to the Zombie Apocalypse, the beggining of Lee and Clem's relationship and meeting the characters and making bonds with them. All That Remains was good but it was too action packed and I wanted to know the characters. I hope that in the next episode we will talk with the characters one by one and know their stories.

    Anyways, onto the question.
Season 1 Episode 1 was the better episode only just
    First half : S2
    Second Half : S1
Personally, Season 1 was much more well done. the interaction with the characters, the action was short but exciting although Clem does have the best kill with the Walker/Lurker in the shed. I don't know why, but her shoving the rake in the walkers/lurkers face cracks me up.
He could be a guardian which is what it looks like at the moment but it's too early to tell.
Tetlltale love to play with out emotions so i wouldn't be surprised if something happened to him. Carely being killed was a total shock, could happen to Luke.

  • It's going to be hard to top Starved for Help.
That was the episode that really marked The Walking Dead as a GOTY game.
The thing that made it so good was that Telltale took a big risk of making the main antagonists not Walkers and people, which paid off.
I think Season 2 Episode 2 will have to have something surprising/shocking to top Season 1 Episode 2.
Kenny or Lily returning would help it.

yes you are the only one thinking that

  • We got to know the characters better in S1E1, so I'll have to go with that. It was my least favorite Episode of Season 1 (not that I don't like it) but it served as a good introduction to most of the important characters and let us know what was what in our group. S2E1 lacked that chance to get to know the main characters and decide who we liked/didn't like and why.

  • Think I'll have to go with S2E1 being better because it had my emotions all over the place. The homie Omid getting shot, escaping from bandits and walkers in the woods, getting bit by that damn evil dog and.... Well you've all played the episode so you know all the other stuff.

  • That meme is hilarious

  • Even if you were joking, that wasn't very nice.

I enjoyed season 2 episode 1 as well but I didn't care about any of the characters I had met and didn't even remember their names after playing. At the end of season one's first episode I remembered every character, even Chet and Andre and I had favourite characters that I cared about and new I would have done anything to protect, such as Carly who won my loyalty by saving Clem, agreeing to keep my secret and arguing with Lary and Lilly when they didn't want us to come Into the drug store. When I played season 2 episode 1 I wanted to leave the cabin group and find Christa.

After the drugstore argument is when the action picked up. After the argument clem gets attacked by a walker, Lee and Carly clear the motor inn taking out 5 or so walkers, Lee gets the axe, goes back to the drugstore, sneaks past a horde of walkers to get the key, then their hideout is breached and overrun by a horde of zombies. How much action do you want? In fact a new day had more action sequences than all that remains if you think about it, what with it being longer and all. You'd have to be an adrenaline junkie to think that new day lacked action. You must fuck on coke. Lol. All jokes a side, new day was an awesome introduction episode it was the game that made us care enough about the franchise to come back for seconds, after all.

Season 1 was longer and actually had more action sequences that we could participate in if you remember and you go through more with the characters before they die. All that remains has like 4 action sequences. The chase scene when Clem bites the guy and falls in the river, then it's the dog attack scene, then it's the scene when she fights the walker in the shed and then the scene at the end when the old guy gets bitten and she chooses to go with him or his nephew.

A new day has the scene where Lee has to kill the reanimated sheriff, the scene where he gets attacked by the walker in the house, then he has to escape Clem's street with Sean when the walkers are closing in on them, then the farm gets breached by walkers and he has to save duck or try and save sean, then Clem gets attacked by a walker in the drugstore, then Lee has to save Glen and clear the motor inn of walkers with Carly, then the drugstore gets breached. That's about 7 or so action sequences that we play through and as I said you go through more with the NCPS before their demise. You spend quality time with Sean before his death and Carly if you save Doug. Where as when the old guy gets bitten by the river you barely know him. In fact I would say the scene where the girl in the motor inn commits suicide is more emotional than all of the deaths in all that remains, including Omid's and it doesn't help that you have characters like Glen giving you shit about it scenes later.
