Would It Be Considered Bad Writing If...

edited February 2014 in The Walking Dead

They killed Luke in episode 2? Would it be bad story writing for Telltale to kill the most likable character in the cabin group? They could miss out on future development, relationships and interactions with Luke.

P.S. This is not a Kenny thread.

Depends on how they handle it and the effects it has on the story, If they just randomly kill him and that has no ramifications in the next episodes Yea it would be bad writting IMO, If you are gonna take away from us the most likeable guy there has to be a reason

  • I don't mind him dead but every soul counts right now.

  • I think it might be too early for Luke. I'm predicting one member will die in episode 2, but Luke seems like the Omid of the group. He'll get killed off i'm sure, he's too much of a likable character to stay alive, but i doubt it's this early. So it would be bad writing, and it would be predictable.

  • They will need to kill him off eventually to make place for other certain people! Oh wait you said it's not a Kenny thread...i won't Post the gif then:D

  • Well, considering that Telltale loves to shock us with character deaths, I wouldn't be surprised but I hope they won't pull a Carley on us with Luke.

  • I don't know. For me most likable character was Pete and well... he got killed (or will but I'm sure he will). I didn't really trust Luke. And obviously someone must die and every story could be great. But in fact I don't really care about Luke. More about Alvin, Sarah and Carlos.

  • the walking dead tends to kill off characters people like so i see luke dying at some point.

  • I think, since everyone expects him to die, Telltale should keep him alive! Now wouldnt THAT be a shock!

  • Same with Kenny. Most people expect him to come back, so what does TellTale do? They don't bring him back in this season at all >:[

  • Definitely wouldn't say that it would be "bad writing" if TT killed off Luke in the 2nd episode. It would suck because I like the guy but everyone has to die and the game wouldn't be what it is if TT killed off all the people the fans didn't like.

Everyday at the office Telltale is like: Should we bring Kenny back?! "Everyone hysterically laughing"

  • As always Salt I couldn't agree more. If it led to something very important in the story, or gave way for a huge point to be made (Carver being the son of the Devil or something (not literally, metaphorically guys)) then it could work very well. If they killed him and...... continued the story, it would be a complete waste. If they are going to 'just kill him' he either needs to be a small character or very loved, as of now he is neither.

  • Always on the same page buddy ! I totally agree there are so many things Telltale could do with his character ( Like making him a villan like you say) that just killing him without his demise leading to something else would be a pretty lazy move by Telltale, As long as killing him brings something else to the story I have no problem

  • Haha just to clearify I made that post a long time ago, I don't subscribe to my own theory anymore :p

But yes that pretty much sums it up. I don't suspect TellTale will waste him though.

  • Don't take it back :P Because if it does happen you would probably beat the hell out of yourself for costing yourself an opportunity to look like a genius !

  • You're right, I must be diligent! Steadfast in my creation!!

Lol but no seriously, I'm not throwing it away. I still think it is a completely plausible outcome for his character, I just don't think they will play it out that way. I guess all their attempts to change/strengthen the perception people have of Luke through all the pictures and the trailer has worked :p

  • If he turns out to be a bad guy I will come back here and tell you how awesome you are :P I hope it doesn't happen though because poor Clem the only guy remotely likeable in that group Who she gets along with is also gonna turn on her ?

  • Well on the playing dead episode 2 for season 1 TT told the interviewer don't get to comfortable with the characters because the one's people like will mostly die, so if Luke dies it wouldn't be bad writing

  • She would never trust anyone again! She would be riddled with doubt and insecurities. She would hate herself and her trusting nature! She would probably fall into an even deeper depression!........

The more I say the more it sounds like something TTG would do....
