Does anyone else not like Luke?

edited February 2014 in The Walking Dead

I feel like the only person who really hates Luke, even if he is friendly. I mean, this isn't a "I hate the character in terms of writing/voice acting", but in a sense of in-game hate. I don't like him as a character, and I think he's trying way too hard to be friendly.

But I feel like the only one, since almost everyone talks about how awesome/friendly/helpful/cute he is.

I'm not syaing that I don't like Luke because I don't but I don't love haim either, he's just too good for me to really like him, so far...

I like dark charatchers, that are not made entirely for you to like them, like Nick, pete, Lilly, Nate, Eddie and I'm assuming Carver.

  • Well to be fair, there weren't alot of other persons to like in the cabin. I am a big uncle Pete fan, i like him alot more than Luke. But unfortunatelly we don't even know if he's gonna make it yet.

  • Since when is "trying too hard to be friendly" a valid reason to hate a character?

  • There's never going to be a character that everyone likes. People don't like Pete for being "mean" to Nick. People don't like Nick for almost shooting Clem. People don't like Kenny because if you don't agree with him then you're garbage to him. There's even people who don't like Lee and Clem. It is literally impossible to create a character that appeals to everybody. There's never a character that is likable to everyone. If Luke is nice people say he's boring, but if Luke has a dark side then people will think he's an asshole. So, to answer your question. No, you're not the only one that may not like Luke.

  • When I think of Luke my immediate reaction tells me to say

    Mehh and then shrug

  • Ever since players have always found a distaste to a character. Too nice, too mean, too boring, too ugly, too cute, etc. There's never been a "just right" with a character.

Can't say I've gotten that impression here but maybe I don't read the right threads. Unless you've been browsing tumblr. As to him trying "too hard to be nice", I think that's just him trying to make up for the initial way the group treated Clementine. Doesn't seem a valid reason for hate unless it turns out to be a facade. Though I understand not wanting to be around a saint, he's hardly come off as such.

  • Are you one of those people who got mad that Luke dropped her on the ground?

  • I believe this was ment because of my comment.

It's cool, I'm not those people that bash others for having different oppinions and I like to believe you are not too.

In my oppinion this games calls a lot to your personality and so I like charatchers with whom I identify like the ones I said in my comment, I'm a pretty dark person, I'm not syaing a bad person just I'm a dark person that makes cold-hearted decisions and don't care if most people like me or not.

That why I say, I don't dislike Luke, I jsut don't identify with him, because he seems like the guy that can't make hard decisions.

Since when is "trying too hard to be friendly" a valid reason to hate a character?

  • That was understandable. If you get mad at that you are an idiot.

Though everybody in the group who couldn't tell a dog bite from a human bite makes those people look like Albert freaking Einstein. Then again ive been bit by lots of dogs in my days.

  • You forgot " to much Mustache ", for all the Kenny haters out there!

  • I actually understand almost eveyr action of the charatchers, it's normal for Luke to do that. I mean he thought she was bitten, EVERYONE would do that, even Pete if he was the one carrying her...

AS I said in my oppinion I don't hate Luke, he just doesn't seemed the dark and cold-hearted charatchers I like that are capable of harsh decisions.

But I understand everything action he had, and I'm glad and thankfull he stuck up for Clem towards the group ;)

Does that mean you're going to be cold-hearted and harsh towards Luke?

  • I feel like he is going to be the new lee or replace him. I don't want that to happen. but with all due respects I don't have problem with his character. :D

  • I have no problem with Luke. He and a Pete are the only characters in this Season who seem to show any compassion towards Clementine.
I have a feeling that at some point in "A House Divided", there will come a scene where some members of the group will want Clementine to remain with them (Luke, Sarah and Pete (if he survived)) and those who don't want her to stay (Carlos, Rebecca, Nick and Alvin (seeing how his wife makes all his decisions for him)).
I'll admit that Luke does judge things rather quickly without thinking first (as evidence by Clementine's dog bite) but he did say that he was on Clementine's side before they put her in the shed and I think he is genuine.

No offense, but stop saying he's going to replace Lee! That's not going to happen so just stop. So many members in this community has said that Clem and him are going to have a brother/sister relationship not a father/daughter relationship that Clem and Lee had. They're two different people with two different roles. Keep it that way.

Ehhh, probably not. I guess being "too nice" is a bad thing. I, for one, really like Luke. On the other hand, I don't like Kenny much, unlike 95% or so of this forum.

  • What happened earlier today was so scary. There were Kenny threads everywhere... EVERYWHERE! I felt like I was losing my mind.

  • I like Luke, I like his character.

I do understand why some may not like him, though. I don't necessarily think it has to be because they think he was poorly written or badly designed, it's just that some people don't like certain character archetypes.

I think this can change though; we barely know any of them and what we think of them can quickly turn right around in the next few episodes

  • Only if I have too, I mean, I like to protect the people I like and that are in the group, But if I have to be that way towards him I'll do it

Does that mean you're going to be cold-hearted and harsh towards Luke?

    Eddie?! A dark charcter?

  • The way Luke flip-flopped between being a nice guy and a paranoid asshole when he saw Clem's bite wound definitely rang alarm bells in my head. Telltale seems to be setting Luke up as Lee 2.0 (or a close approximation anyway), but my version of Clem will continue to be wary of him.

  • I don't know he is just so eh...... I don't really care about him.......

  • Since opinions.

Since when is "trying too hard to be friendly" a valid reason to hate a character?

  • Some people think that Luke will be the new Lee. I personally can't see that happening. Mostly because Lee served as a surrogate father and a mentor to Clementine. I can see Luke becoming more of a Big Brother role to Clementine, and Pete (depending on the player choice) wil be the mentor.

  • Obviously people are entitled to whatever stupid feelings and beliefs they may possess, but that doesn't make them valid. If you are going to create a thread based around an opinion, there needs to be (or at least, there should be) some sort of reasonable explanation behind it. What is reasonable about hating a character for being nice? He could have just stopped at boring, which is perfectly reasonable, but hatred? How does overt friendliness warrant hatred?

On a side note, your posting history is pretty awesome. Thumbs up for that.
