For me by far the scariest thing was when the stranger was watching me from the fog when I was burying that kid from the attic in Around Every Corner. That was really creepy.
Probably this stingy git who wouldn't give you his animal crackers:
Didn't scare me the first time; I walked around the front of the train, towards the car and saw him coming before he startles Lee. Second playthrough? I climbed down the ladder at the front of the train, which throws you right into the jump scare cutscene. Even knowing he was there, it still made me crap myself.
I don't know why, but no matter how many times i play through season one - that scene where you're in the back yard and the creepy figure is watching you - always scares the shit outta me. I know it's coming, i wait on it, and i still jump about 6ft in the air. The scene with Mark was a jaw opener as-well, the build up to, the very very last thing i expected to find was a man with no legs when i pulled back that book shelf thing.
Pretty unpopular opinion my one, but the very first walker you kill, the police officer. Anyone remember when you're putting the shell in th… moree shotgun only for it to fall out again? Generally the first-person view moments were always quite thrilling. Shame Season Two hasn't done them as much, I found them really cool.
Wow. I probably would've shat my pants if that was my first playthrough. Even Sarah just innocently popping in scared the bejesus out of me. Almost everytime I play that STILL gets me. I pity you man.
The glitch in "all that remains" that was showing ghost characters in the lodge while clementine was sneaking inside of the rooms. When i pe… moreeked into Sarah's room Carlos was standing right there in my glitch. Probably the only time i got legitimately spooked in a game since the very first resident evil.
Nah the earlier part was scarier where Nick was trying to apologize to Walt (who was smoking and depressed). Walter could've stabbed Nick to death right there.
There are a few moments that made me jump, but nothing really that terrifying. The first time you see the stranger on the other side of the fence was one. The zombie that attacks you the second time you go to the garage in Crawford was another. The scene where Walter is holding the knife was really tense too. Not terrifying, but did get a very "oh shit this is bad..." vibe.
Well, I was shitting myself in the scene where Lee has a nightmare that Clem had turned into a walker and tried to bite him. When I first played I thought at first that it was real. Just seeing Clem turn into one of those freaks me out.

I think the scenes with human evil rather than zombies bein zombies are the most terrifying. For example, discovering the St. John's are eating people, that Clementine was kidnapped, that Carver tracked the group down, etc. But in terms of walkers the scenes in Crawford where they're banging down the doors or the sewers. I don't like that feeling of being trapped with nowhere to go...

The same would have happened to Clem if Lee had not come along. Crazy...

For me, the scariest part was when Walter held the gun towards Nick and the walker. I thought he was gonna shoot my favorite dude.
