Anyone notice the recurring imagery of crows and trees?

Our first shot of Clem in season 2 is seen from above after a flock of crows has cleared away, her tiny form dwarfed by forest trees.

In part 2, we're given a a similar image of Clem standing atop a ski lift, another crow visible to her left:

I can't help wondering if Telltale is implying something here about season 2. Both images have Clem framed against a wide, slightly menacing expanse of trees, with crows in the immediate vicinity. The hidden message here seems to be "Clem vs. the world (the forest representing the world)", or Clem vs. death (crows are often seen as symbols of death) ", or both.

  • That's right. We saw a crow in the bush before Sam died, and there was one on top of the lift, maybe that was for Walter.

Is it a crow or a raven? sorry for the stupid question lol. Just that ravens seem to have more symbolism

"Many wonder as to what does the raven bird symbolize. It is commonly seen as a symbol of death in Western society. The raven is also viewed as a harbinger of ill omen. In Germany, it is considered to represent the souls of the dammed."

  • I think they both symbolize death. Ravens are bigger and cooler looking (in my opinion). They also tend to be depicted alone I've noticed. Crows are always in flocks when I've seen them in artistic depictions and they're smaller.

Cartoons are not an accurate source of information, sorry. Again, this was quite silly of me.

  • I think it was meant to visually represent how truly small and insignificant she is. She is a tiny child in an I immeasurable world, made only more so by the ZA. It truly is her vs the world. The quite, lonely, desolate ambiance these scenes give only supports this idea. Even when she is mere steps from Christa and Omid she is completely alone. This is her struggle, her vs the world.

  • It could simply be a recurring object because she is in a wild ambient. I don't think you expect to see cars and oil stations in a forest.

I think there is no meaning behind this, it's just to make the forest appear as something alive and not just a bunch of trees

Yeah, the overall harshness of nature appears to be an overarching theme this season, just like how the theme of the first season was the depravity of humans at the end of their rope.

The two most terrible significant events that have happened so far were motivated by really basic instinctual drives: Sam was feral dog who attacked Clem because he was starving and Carver hunted down the group because he wants to guarantee the safety of his offspring. Then there's all the stuff with water, the wind turbines being the thing that drew walkers to the ski lodge, both of the ending songs played so far, and the fact that the last episode looks like it's going to take place in a cold, snowy environment.

In Season 1, the officer's musing that "People will up and go mad when they think their life is over" at the beginning of the first episode provided a sort of motif that was carried out through the rest of the season. The "arc words" this time around appear to be Christa's warning that "This rain will turn to sleet, then ice, then snow. It won't be easy."

  • --->>>>> Incoming RANT ---->>>>When i look at these pictures i don't even know what im looking at. What is Clem doing at this point at this point in the story. Its like TWD isn't even about her its about these to groups who hate each other and shes just caught in the middle. Its not Clem vs The World, its Clem vs Everybody elses problems. Carver vs Rebecca Nick vs Walter Carlos vs Sarah Luke vs Kenny. So whats Clem doing? NOTHING! shes just there!

  • She has to survive somehow. The problems that come with joining the group (the groups problems) are better than the probable outcome of the alternate choice. Being alone would mean death, especially for someone her age.

  • In season one if you plan to split off from the group, she tells you that she doesn't like the woods.
And now look at the poor thing, stuck in the middle of a damn forest.

One more reason to miss Lee, he would have taken a different route.

  • She does?? Now I'm even more upset by her current situation :(

  • Yeah, that's why Lee and Clem were going to follow the beach.
    She likes the beach. :(

  • Chuck was a grown, grizzled, burley man. Clementine is not. Being alone for Clementine would mean death, surely.

Oh, it will. A beach covered in the bodies of the Season 2 cast. With Nate sailing in the boat from Season 1 in the background.

  • Stop doubting Clem, Ive seen her Kill 2 zombies in a tight shed. Yeah shes still a kid but is better prepared than any other character ive seen. The only thing hold her back according to you is her Age and Gender

  • Nice find and thread. Hadn't noticed it, adds to the experience :)

  • Really cool, didn't know that, was planning on replaying S1 anyways :)

Gotta love TT for thinking of these little details

  • Gender no, look at Christa and Molly...

Age, yes. She is very well prepared. She is extremely smart and agile. But she is a kid. Doubt is the name of the game buddy. Hell, she can't even make a fire...
