Rest of the episodes are confirmed for being 90 mins long [no, they're not]

I think from a "lines of dialog per episode" basis, we have a goal we try to meet per episode, that I believe is what was similar to season 1. As many people on the forums have pointed out, probably having less hubs where you go around and talk to people at your own pace detracts from how long you spend playing the game. But I think from a story standpoint, it hasn't made as much sense in season 2 so far to have many hubs where you casually walk around and talk to people.

Also, I forget which series we started this one (I've worked on way too many), but it was decided a few years back that about 90 minutes was our goal for game play length - mostly because we feel like our games are best experienced when played in one sitting.

This is taken from my "Why Telltale making their games shorter" thread. What do you guys think about this?

  • I don't really like completing in one sitting, the longer the better. In season one i would have to take breaks mid-way.

  • Fuck 'em

  • no, just no. its short enough as it is and with us having to wait 1.5 - 3 months inbetween i would want it to be as long as possible... or maybe im just crazy

  • My rage is boiling up slowly but surely...

  • I think you might have misunderstood that.... They don't mean the episodes for their games will be 90 minutes long, they mean there will be 90 minutes of GAMEPLAY because they're cutting down on mostly pointless 'hubs' where you just walk around and talk to people. There will be more game time because of story cutscenes, just that's not really gameplay time.

At least that is how I interpreted it.

  • guess the lower the chances of season 2 being the game of the year :/

What? Hubs would make a lot of sense in season 2. A hub before Pete, Nick and Clem went fishing, a hub during their 5-day walk and a hub in the ski lodge would be perfect. Seems like they're purposely trying to make season 2 worse than season 1 for some reason.

That's just great... If this is true and in context, the decision to keep the rest of the episodes only ninety minutes long is a huge mistake on Telltale's part. With universes such as 'The Walking Dead' that relies on our emotional attachments to the characters, we require way longer than that to develop any sort of bond that would make us care if someone died. Not to mention that unlike plain ol' movies, practically no one wants a game to last only through one sitting. We want it to spend time with it as long as we can and get immersed in the fictional world of Clementine.

For me at least, I didn't mind the short play time as much with 'The Wolf Among Us', since it's focus is completely different and more so on the crime drama, but this series really does need to be longer. Also, since we're on the subject, I do hope that they add in longer and more relevant hubs. All these little things aided the experience in Season One, and Season Two has been seriously lacking in this department.

Although other than these minor issues, the new episodes have been spectacular. "A House Divided" is my favourite so far with it's phenomenal tension!

I'm closing this separate discussion given that it's kinda taking this out of context - see my post here in the original thread for further elaboration, plus more comments from @bubbledncr. Everyone is welcome to keep discussing the subject there. :)
