Why is everyone so against Daryl in the game??!!

  • That is subjective

Daryl is a stupid, embarrassingly lame non-character with a bad actor. They could include any random greasy redneck with a crossbow and it would be the same thing, but with more character development.

  • Kenny's return isn't like that, Tyreese made it out of a gym full of walkers but he was still vulnerable

My beef with it is that Daryl is basically too competent. Ever since his solo expedition in the first half of season 2 where he woke up aft

  • I agree purists are awks sometimes, but the game didn't retcon Lilly or Glenn

Can I ask a question about this whole "universe" thing? I see nothing in the game that contradicts the tv series or the comic. In fact, the game retcons Lilly. And maybe Glenn. Right? So why the "I am so hip" purist attitude around here?

  • Were there two Lilly's?

Yes ;/ Some kind of miscommunication between Telltale and Robert Kirkman, so they've made game Lilly a different character to comic Lilly now. I suppose it's not so bad but eh

  • i love the character Daryl, but i also dont want him in the game, it would be like having hax activated.

  • I wouldn't mind having him in because we've seen what telltale can do
He doesn't have to be his tv counterpart telltale could make him into an entirely new person
Heck for all we know there is a Daryl Dixon in the game/comic univers

  • Oh, well that makes sense. I might give it another try, I dunno.

That was because AMC stupidly lowered the budget and fired Frank Darabont, It's much better since then, although I like S2 for making the characters more interesting

  • It would be more of a fan service in my opinion, though I do like Daryl's character. I just think he belongs in the TV show. Even though it's got some things different from the comics, it's still based on the comics and I don't think it's right to have him join a different group on different platforms. =/

It makes things really confusing for unnecessary reasons. We don't need Daryl to make the game good, the only reason is to appease to the small amount who want him in there.

  • There's two Ricks, two Glenns, two Tyreeses, Two Michonnes and everyone else doing two different things. I dont think its an Im so hip attitude to recognize that they are different universes.

  • I have a hot/cold relationship with the show. I can't connect with the characters as much as I do in the comic and the game. Some episodes are great, but I still have to practically force myself watch it every week. I'm not one of the canon-purists though.

In what way do you disapprove of the direction of the show, just curious? I think its been a love letter to the comics personally.

  • So is "Daryl is an amazing character." Do you have a point or are you just typing..?

  • The TV show is good and the game is amazing. Now chicken is good and chocolate is amazing... but never have I once wanted the two together. They are both their own things, let them be separate please or god dammit it better be a damn good actress who will be playing Clementine in the show (if that happens).

  • You know, you don't have to watch it or force yourself.

  • A lot of people I know do. In my field, it's useful to have a decent grasp of sports and pop culture to connect with people.

  • Um the point is that it's subjective, ja. I wasn't arguing for or against, just that you say it like fact yet it isn't

  • S2 is slow, but I like it more now as it's the season that really developed the group. S1 is brilliant but 6 eps can only develop the group so much, more so as they're in the Atlanta camp. The back half of S2 is where the best eps are, then S3 and 4 are much faster but good for characters

Oh, well that makes sense. I might give it another try, I dunno.

  • Oh.

  • Are you suggesting that everyone add a disclaimer clarifying that their posts are merely a matter of opinion and subject to disagreement? That would be silly.

  • Because Daryl is a butt.

  • Therefore he can't appear.

The game is set in the comic verse: Daryl is not in the comics.

Interesting opinions here, so I figured I would add in my own 2 cents, because you know hy not. First and foremost I agree that putting TV/comic characters into the game are bad ideas. I enjoyed how they did Glen and Hershel as prequels, but that was enough. I was even a bit unnerved with Lilly at first being the same Lilly as in the comics.

Now with that disclaimer out of the way, I will say I don't like the argument that the game is in the comic universe and that Daryl is a TV character. While this is literally true, I'm still not a fan of this argument why? Well as can be clearly seen by anyone who reads the comics and watches the TV shows they will quickly notice the TV characters while based on their comic personas, will sometimes differ a lot. A Very good example of this is Alvin who in the comic is actually a really big character, that is a part of Rick's group since Atlanta, but in the Show he's with Tyresse and later joins Woodbury, as well as having a very different personality. Now why do I bring this up? Because the TV show clearly shows that they can and will take characters and change, them. Because of this I don't see why people are so objective of putting Daryl into the comic world, in fact they could even make his personality then, and he wouldn't even have to be a part of Rick's group.

Now as said before I don't think any characters from the show/comics should appear in the game unless they are left behind/ forgotten characters. Just my thought's on the subject.

  • Yeah that's what I meant was probably thinking alvin because of the game but I did men allen

  • Speaking as someone who took 4 attempts to start the tv show because I couldn't get into it..you HAVE to get past about 2/3 of season 2 and then it gets interesting...though I am perpetually driven nuts by peoples constant insistence on trying to normalize their lives and grow vegetables and crap..they do seem to have finally moved past that...the TV show is now one of my all time favorites...and Daryl is a total bad*** and a rich character which is why fans of the TV show would like to see an appearance.

    Oh.

  • I don't really have an opinion one way or the other...but...while I haven't read the comics I cant really speak to it with total authority..nevertheless at least a cursory search indicates that neither Clem nor Lee are in the comics...so arguing that Daryl cant be in the game because he isn't in the comics seems somewhat irrational or a proposition. Indeed I'm guessing the vast majority of the characters in the game aren't in the comics...so the idea that a fan appealing cameo just simply cant happen because Daryl isnt in the comics strikes me as being fairly weak as an argument against it.

The game is set in the comic verse: Daryl is not in the comics. I know that. I mean, since, if he somehow exists in the universe but just never met Ricks group, than why not.

  • Shrug Nah.
