    Gordan Freeman and Half-Life in general are cool because aside from being a great game, it was the first FPS where you didn't play as some commando-guy.

    I am not sure a dude who works at a top secret facility in experimental physics counts as an everyman. I don't know about you but I am not up on current string theory.
