We need darker themes!
This is the zombie apocalypse! Where is all the super fucked up shit? In season one, we ran in to some 'nice folks' and ended up learning the we should be more fearful of the people who are left than the slowly decaying corpses walking around! So, where is all this in season 2?
We've got our boat. (Wellington)
We have our people. (Luke and the others)
We've got our sides. (Luke vs Kenny)
We've got our new Crawford. (Carver's group.)
So where the fuck is our cannibals and bandits, and cutting limbs off people? In episode 2 of season 1, we were thrown into a scary survivalist situation. In episode 2 of season 2, we've got, what? A little five minute bonding scene with either Nick or Pete, another time-jump, a small hub area in the cabin and then a five minute ambush?
Don't get me wrong, I love season 2, and I expect that episode 3 will dip into a bit of what I'm looking for, but all I'm getting from this big and scary Carver, is The Governor. Who to be honest, was a pretty lack-luster villain in the show! Telltale, step up your game! We know Clementine is a child, but this is still the zombie apocalypse! Give us a torture scene or something!
Comments
There is still another 3 episodes to go, i'm sure the themes are just going to get darker from here.
Can't really show much when the episodes are only 1.5 hours long.
They showed a lot last episode.
Maybe it's just me, but the very concept of season 2 feels pretty dark already. A little girl left all alone in a world of things that want to eat her face.
Just sayin'.
Relax we're going to get creepy Waco rape-cult next episode with a gross bloody birth and/or abortion scene, probably.
You'll get to throw up all over yourself then just be patient.
judging from the episode slides season 2 is going to be a lot darker than season 1 but we could be wrong who knows
Well, you said it yourself. we already learned that we should be more fearful of the living than the dead in Season 1. So it wouldn't really be that interesting to just do the same thing again in Season 2. By this point, both Clementine and the player (assuming they've played through Season 1) are already acutely aware of how fucked up this world and its people can be. In terms of storytelling, there's not much more to explore in that area. We're already coming in expecting insane, cannibalistic rapists. There's not much further you can really go from there until it starts to seem silly and excessive.
Lets hope Carvers group has some even more underlying evil surrounding them. I could name a few themes, but I won't, however there is a lot that could be explored.
The dark themes are what make this game great but there does need to be some good and humerous things happen or it would just get boring and too depressing.
lol wut?
They can't show that much realism in the game, otherwise it would be a japanese children hentai game with a lot more gore.
I think I should be outraged at what you're saying here, but I'm just more confused than anything else...
To be fair, Clementine has seen some pretty dark.
--Clem met a cuddly friend in the woods and was maimed by him.
--She was (more-or-less) left to die of infection/shock by an unsympathetic group of survivors and was forced to stitch her own wound.
--She watched Matthew die horrifically right in front of her.
--She was kidnapped by a megalomaniac, who tortured and killed people in front of her.
Thing is, villains, bandits and cannibals aren't that necessary anymore. These days, ordinary survivors are fucked up enough as it is.
i know... I feel the same way.
oh god no
W...T...F?
TV Tropes has a term for that, I think: Darkness Induced Audience Apathy
Otherwise known as 'All That Remains'.
Well i dont see how people being eaten alive isnt dark
Well, I'm working on a dark storyboard, if you want, I'll send you a preview.
Overall this Season has been pretty dark, with the scenes with Sam, Clem alone to fend for herself, Matty's and Pete's death were pretty gruesome, Carver's first appearance was very eerie, captured by Carver. In Harm's Way looks eerie. ESPCIALLY AMID THE RUINS NOW THAT'S GONNA BE DARK AS FUCK!
I don't really see how the series could possibly get any more darker without going into the realm of super, super fucked up stuff. In EP1 Clem was attacked by a feral dog which became impaled seconds later, and had to stitch up her own arm. In EP2 Carver holds the group hostage, tortures Carlos, kills Walter and (determinately) Alvin. And we've still got 3 episodes to go, I can foresee a lot more violence in the future.
There's no need for excessively shocking themes to make a story good.
Episode four will probably be the one where things started to get really fucked up.
OH NO! A DISLIKE! I'M FUCKED!
My anxiety meter jumped to 11 when I saw the Episode 4 slide. If TellTale has anything sinister in store, it's going to happen then.
All I could think about is the possibility of Clem being in danger. I looked through the slides before playing episode one and it didn't occur to me before that Clementine has a possibility of dying by the end, due to how the last pc went out.
Debatable. It was good episode that showed enough scenes that advanced the plot to get to the big reveal and that crazy cliffhanger. It got the job done in that regard, but I still think it fell short on the character interaction.
All That Remains left a lot information about the new group out, perhaps on purpose to fit the theme of trust and what not. However, because of that, I thought that A House Divided had a lot to catch up to do. It is the second episode of this season and you only more or less know two characters in the entire group. The focus of this series are the interactions with the survivors and how they deal with shitty situations, and I feel we're only getting the latter. Once again, I'll use Walter's words: "Connecting (or not, your choice) with people is so important"
My problem is that they are showing enough of the story, but not enough of the people carrying it. It seems to be an unpopular opinion, but as they say, just my two cents.
I still think there's more to the back story of cabin group but that's just me.
The possibility of Clem dying certainly makes us stew over our descisions longer.
Oh there definitely is. When TellTale gives us that info is anybody's guess
sure the darkness is coming slower but don't forget sam the dog and also
I agree man, I wanna see people SUFFER
It might be unpopular but some people share that sentiment. I'm actually one of them. The story is fine, but it isn't as fantastic as last season because character development and even good, basic characterization is lacking. People die and I'm like eh, yeah, I guess that sucks. Alvin and Nick's deaths didn't effect me much beyond realizing they weren't going to be in the next episode. Hell I felt more when Walter died than either of the other two (I think that's because of his conflict, dealing with Matt's death, and his betrayal from Bonnie).
Dude...we saw a dog tear into the soft flesh of a little girl's arm in episode 1, followed in episode 2 by a man being shot through the head in cold blood. We really, really don't need "darker themes",
If you're the kind of guy who gets off on "super fucked up shit", I'm sure the GAME OF THRONES video game will sate your appetite. Until then, you can go rent FACES OF DEATH again.
"We need darker themes!"
Were you here about a week or two ago? Sooo many disturbing threads about pedo rapists or about Luke pedoing out on Clementine...
Granted that's the forum though... But I think season two is setting up to be just as/more traumatic than the first (though not in the aforementioned ways)
Torture? Just for shock value or to give people some kind of thrill? No thanks.
I don't want Clem to go through any more trauma than she already has. Now, while I know for a fact that won't happen, why would anyone want to pile more suffering on her? It's as despicable an idea as it is sadistic!
That would make for a pretty messed up scene...
take pliers
use pliers on fingernails
These forums are really PG sometimes....
While Sam attacking Clem was tense and frightening, It is certainly not dark, neither is Carver shooting Walt (Though it was depressing),
And don't imply someone gets off to "super fucked up shit" because they prefer Season 1's themes, This is the Walking Dead. I don't think you would last reading the comics...
A feral dog mauling a little girl in exquisite detail isn't dark enough for you.
Seriously.
I'd hate to see what your idea of a romantic comedy is. And just for the record, I haven't read the comics since issue ten because Kirkman's means of telling a story became painfully obvious a looooooooong time ago. If there's some kind of weird "macho factor" involved with reading comic books like THE WALKING DEAD, I'm happy to be dismissed as a wimp.
From what I can tell of the season 2 episode 5 image, things look to be pretty grim down the snowy road, so don't count your eggs yet.
