Would it have been smarter to wait?

Kenny starts shooting right away into the Ski Resort/Lodge.
Would it have been a better choice for Kenny and possibly Clem to have waited or taking higher ground (The ladder/post Clementine climbed up earlier near the boarded-up windows) before firing into as fortified Resort?
Or even waited for them to all move and get out, before following perhaps?
Even though Kenny nearly killed them all there, I feel like with a tiny bit more thought Carver and hsi threat could've been essentially neutralized.

I think the best option would've been to surrender, honestly. Carver wouldn't have killed anyone had Kenny not shot Johnny or fired shots at Carver. It's unreasonable to think Carver wouldn't be pissed if one of his group members was killed. His actions aren't morally right, but they certainly make sense.
But yes, I do think waiting would've been a better way to handle the situation. The chances of Kenny getting a clear shot at Carver once he retreated out of the lodge are a lot higher. Kenny's plan of "shoot now, think later" wasn't very smart, in my opinion. Shooting in a hostage situation is extremely risky, the only time it should be considered is if you're positively sure you've got an opportunity for a fatal shot at the leader. And even then, you can't be sure how his lackeys would respond to that. They're the ones with the assault rifles, not him.
