Why do we pay more for the same game?

edited April 2014 in The Walking Dead

Just wanted to know why do we have to pay more for the game in the UK (PS3) than in the US and how much does it cost to purchase per episode/season in the US/EU/AUS or any other denominations or platforms that it's available in? It costs 33% more over here and okay so it's not like it's a whole heap of money in the grand scheme of things but still.....

  • First I would like to know if you have considered currency rates. Because the British pound is worth less than the American dollar.

I think you mean the £ is worth more than the $.

I'm not totally sure about the cost per season in the US on consoles but...

US $5=£3 per ep. $20(guess)= £12 per season.

UK £4=$6.70 per ep. £16=$26.80 per season.

No clue about the EU or anywhere else.

  • Noooo.... I am positive the dollar is worth more. £1=$1.68

  • Yeah that's about right, which means £1 is worth more than $1. Think about it.....

The Australian dollar is only just behind the American dollar and we pay $100 for new releases while the Americans pay $60, I know your pain.

  • LOL No probs, I had to think for a hot sec when I first saw the comment. Happens

  • Well, from anyone looking at Australia it really looks like the government will do anything to make sure no one ever plays video games.

dw as harsh as it sounds it will be great when the old women on our classification board die out so the people who grew up in the nintendo/sega era will hop on and will understand that games have evolved from more than a kids toy and the era of games getting unnecessary censorship here will be over

  • yea man it is bad and the worst part is there are too many casual gamers here who spend $100 or even sometimes $110 on fifa or cod it is just so bad

Yeah it's shocking, they pay $100 every year for the same game with a couple new maps and guns, I haven't bought a COD game since modern warfare 2 because every COD game is only a minor change since the last.

  • Yep, same in NZ. We pay about $100 for new releases too. It's bullshit.

  • Well at least Michael Atkinson lost his job so we did get an R18 rating eventually, but the R18 rating we got is rubbish, they censored Saints Row 4 because fictional characters took a fictional alien drug inside of a computer simulation.

  • I thought you guys had it worse then us, I have heard of New Zealanders paying up to $130 for new releases.

Here in Brazil too, around 150 for new releases. It's bullshit but we just have to deal with it.

  • Last COD I bought too. Not looking to give them my money when the game becomes largely redundant after 1 year and all you get is the same shiz. Most games over here you can get for £40, £50 max for a standard edition and tbh theres normally somewhere you can find them for £40. AUD $110/£60 is nuts though, %50 extra.... And I only started this thread because I have to pay £1 more per episode. Don't know how I'd cope down under. Not good to hear!

  • Depends on what game it is.

  • In all fairness minimum wage is twice that of the US. (I think? It's like AUS$14 versus $7.10 in the US (though a lot of states are a bit higher - it's 8.25 in California)

  • A lot of it depends on taxes. France used to be something like 60 euros, but that was 10 years ago so I'm sure it's higher now.

Extreme example: in Massachusetts a pack of cigarettes is around $10 but in Korea it's like $2.50

  • Does anybody know how much TWD costs per episode/season in the EU?

  • The whole season in belgium costs 25 usd its about 17 euros

  • I payed for the Season2 pass ca15 Euro (Germany)
