Will Rebecca's baby be named Omid to fulfill an allusion of "hope" reborn?

edited April 2014 in The Walking Dead

A lot of people say Omid's death at the start of this season was pointless but I have a theory Omid's death will convey a deeper message at the end of this season. As we know Omid means "hope", Hope died at the start of this season. If some how Rebecca dies during child birth and doesn't get to name her baby and its a boy what if Clem gets to name it and she names the baby Omid? Hope would be reborn!

Edit: If its a girl it could be a different name that means hope in another language.

It would be interesting to see Christa's reaction to that assuming she is alive and we see her in the game (and the baby doesn't die).

  • That's a beautiful way of seeing it. I know that if we get to name the baby, and there's a choice between Lee or Omid, I will have to pause the game for a few minutes to think about it. But this is a great reason to name the baby Omid, I think. A new start. (But if the baby dies that just makes it even more depressing.)

  • I'd name it Ben!

  • NO

  • Well you could just photoshop a baby face over Ben's throughout that speech.

  • The gender is gonna be determinant if you treat her nice or not, if it's a boy the choices would be... [Lee Jr.] [Ben] [Omid] [...] and if it's a girl it's... [Molly] [Bec] [Christa] [...]

  • What about transgender?

  • Intersex and transgender are completely different. I could go deep into the differences, but I'll just say the names.

    Intersex names are normal names.

Transgender names are names translated from one sex's name to the other sex. Such as Joseph to Joci.

Omid would say: "Then we call him... Her... Whatever! We called it "Omista!" "

No, name it 'snot machine 2000'

  • Let's name it lilly...okay no?well then why not hope as girl or something

  • Let's name him or her Надежда.

I actually like the way that sounds :). I never thought of someone naming the baby hope in a different language other than hope or omid. That would be an even better way to hide hope reborn.

Let's name him or her Надежда.

  • A newborn isn't going to be transgendered (well, actually, that can be a nature or nurture argument, but point is the baby wouldn't have a concept of gender at that point).

Intersex usually means a baby with 'ambiguous genitalia,' and oftentimes the child would get surgery early on to match the genitals of one sex, usually the one closest to the one it's they're born with. Their name generally corresponds to the gender they're going to be raised as.

Not all transgendered people use the other version of their name. Some do (Larry/Lana Wachowski). Some don't (Stan/Loretta).

Omid sounds like a good name to me... BUT that baby born to REBECCA might i add....does not deserve the same godly name as Lee.

  • I know, sounds pretty good, right? It sounds even cooler when coming from a fluent Russian speaker.

  • I wonder if it's name is dependent on if you say "Omid is a good name" at the beginning of episode one maybe? ;)

  • It could be a girl

  • Thats a good point, Clayton_Boylan from the forums also brought this up and a possibility if its female that it could be named hope in a different language by someone else to better hide the allusion of hope reborn. Clayton_Boylan example was Надежда - Nadezhda (Na-Dezh-da).
