Laptop Internet

Apologies if this sounds stupid...
I have a laptop which connects to my wireless router at home. Everything is fine and dandy, I can browse the internet. If I take my laptop to somewhere like Starbucks, they have wireless internet connection and the laptop can just connect to their router, and then I can browse the internet. Great!
Say I go somewhere that doesn't have wireless internet access. Is there still a way to go on the internet? I've seen people on trains browsing the web, so I'm sure I'm missing out on something simplistic here. Thanks!

I think you can access the internet through a cell phone, though that'll depend on the laptop and the phone. There are also services where you use a usb dongle to connect through satellites or cell phone networks, though that probably involves an expensive subscription.

Alright, thanks chaps. If I went to somewhere which had internet but not wireless, it's just a case of connecting to the correct wall socket?

for broadband i'd assume it would have to be an ethernet socket, some places have these installed, halls of residence, others may need a router

Most trains support a wireless internet service. Not always free though.
