Telltale's justification for 90 minute episodes doesn't make sense.

Puzzlebox claimed that the reason Telltale are aiming at about 90 minutes per episode is because, like a film, this length can be completed in one sitting.

**What?**

Films can be anywhere from 1 hour 15 minutes long to three and a half hours long. I have definitely watched many films that were 2 and a half hours long.

In one sitting.

I'm sure most of us completed season 1's longer episodes in one sitting.

Telltale, you do not need to aim for 90 minutes so that we can play it in one sitting. That is neither a good motivation ,if true, nor does it actually make sense as 2 and a half hours isn't an unreasonable time to play/watch something for.

Now what's the actual reason? It would be nice for you to be straight with us about this for once, because you have remained incredibly silent throughout season 2's release. Is it just because of higher quality textures? Sharing resources with Wolf Among Us?

Not to say the 90 minute episodes aren't great - they are - but I'm sure most of us would agree that 150 minutes of awesomeness is better than 90 minutes of awesomeness.

Budget. Its just a extremely sugar-coated way of saying it.
  • Longer episodes need more time --> More time of making the game costs more money --> Telltale loves money ( I mean everyone wants money, its not a negative point).
And they have of course a story-plan they want to follow and can put in 90 min/ 5 parts. Adding scenes to strech the game ( and that are not important for the story) is probably not worth their time. I mean they would need double the time for an episode if they would make them double the playtime. And you dont want to wait 6 months for an episode , do you ? ;)

If they have to be 90 minutes, I feel like there should at least be more than 5 episodes to compensate for that.

The grand total will be about 7 and a half hours for the whole season. That's considered a short game.
  • We didn't have to wait 6 months for the longest episodes in season 1!

If it is because of money, I would rather they just tell us instead of lying to their fans.

  • I think a large part of it is that they want to keep the story "tighter" to keep things faster pace and more intense. Which is unfortunate because one of the things I really liked about Season 1 of TWD was the slow, calm, relaxing bits in that made the action sequences feel more intense.
  • 90 minutes is too short, in my opinion. There's an easy way to greatly improve time spent without taking up too many resources: HUBS. Seriously, there needs to be a place where we can talk and question people, learn their motivations, backstories, insights on the situation, etc. This was incredibly common in the first season, but is pretty much absent in this one, which is disappointing.
  • It may not be a lie, but a new approach they feel works better because of... gods know why.

    I never asked for this.

There are 5 episodes, each episode should be at least 2 hours long which would make 10 hour's altogether .
People have complained that 90 min's is too long in a sitting
To solve both problems Telltale could release 10 episode's, each 1 hour worth of gameplay and when all are finally released it be 10 hour long story like the 5 episode's with 2 hour long
Also with 10 episode's the wait time between episodes will be shortened .
  • exactly, the little things and calm moments add so much more feel to the story.

  • Bingo! The team is scattered lets face it, they are working on The walking dead, The wolf among us and now Tales of the Borderlands. Soon they will also have another project, Game of thrones. Don't get me wrong it's good to see Telltale trying new things and expanding, hell they deserve it after the quality entertainment they have pushed out in the past but they have a small team. 100 people give or take. The reason season 1 was so good was because the whole team was putting their heart and soul into it. Everyone was giving 110% to make it the best game possible. That was the IT, programmers, art, writers, you name it. Now the team is scattered among a ton of other titles and they are under pressure. No PR with the community or honest answers means they are under pressure and struggling. They just need to take a chill pill and get these games out the way first before they work on these other projects.
