[sic] etiquette

edited October 2008 in General Chat
I was quoting someone on these forums earlier today and saw a typo staring at me. The quote was already formatted, but I had an insistent need to add the i]sic[/i bracket in. I wussed out as it could be seen as rude and in somewhat poor taste.

What do you guys think? It's largely unnecessary most of the time, but it distances you from the error. My rule of thumb is to use it when paraphrasing or mocking someone.

If it's a particularly offensive typo, you can point it out, I guess, but I think the last thing we need is threads filling up with people spending time and wasting space by making an issue out of correcting a typo in a preceding post.
