Did anyone else catch this in season 1?

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
When Kenny, Lee and the others flee the motel, they are seen having rifles in their possession.
When they are seen arriving in Savannah, they don't have them.
Nor are the rifles seen on the train.

Why the hell would they leave their rifles behind.
That doesn't make a lick of damn sense!
Even if they don't have ammo, the rifles can still be used as clubs.

So why the hell would they leave them behind?

Didn't those rifles remain in the RV? I see two explanations:

    1. They didn't have any ammo, and using rifles as clubs is kinda stupid.
    2. (if you let Lilly into the RV): Lilly stole the RV, taking whatever they left with her.
  • Good point they might have lost them during the Motel attack but I don't know.
  • Probably left behind when the Bandits attacked and they were fleeing for their lives, since they were caught off guard at the hotel.
  • Eh.A little plot hole.
  • They could have still kept the rifles to scare any people they might have met even If they didn't have any ammo

  • There are a shit ton of things that are more suitable as clubs, okay? For example, we saw how Nick was using a rifle as a club - until he shot a walker, he couldn't get rid of it. Rifles (and other firearms) should be what they are - firearms, not melee weapons.

Anyway, this is more of a plot-hole on Telltale's part.

  • They left them behind because Kenny's powerful mustache and the power of Lee's pimp hand was all they needed.

Unless your in a life and death scenario, then a rifle can serve just as well as a melee weapon, as well as baseball bat.
Does Davy Crockett's last stand at the Alamo ring any bells?
And do you remember at the drugstore in episode 3, when a walker approaches Lee, Lee knocks him in the head twice with his rifle, in effect using his rifle as a club?

And it makes sense to fight back, in any way possible.
And so if keeping yourself alive means using a rifle as a club, then so be it!

  • In the rush to escape the motel, you can see that Lilly wasn't holding her rifle when she entered the RV, having abandoned it. Since there were no other rifles in the RV at the time of their escape and there wasn't enough time to grab them, in logical theory, the only rifle they should've still had with them when they entered Savannah would have to be the one Lee used while defending the motel during the bandit attack.

Lee did use a handgun to fire the first shot.
Followed by Kenny throwing Lee a rifle, and Lee subsequently uses it to defend the group, along with Lilly and Carly, whilst Kenny starts up the RV.
When they enter Savannah, Lee is holding a handgun, as well as having one tucked behind his back.
The two others who possess handguns are Kenny and Christa, which they use when the group is swarmed by walkers in the middle of the street, and Chuck gets separated from them.

And, when the mansion is besieged by a deluge of walkers, the group, including Ben if he survived Crawford, defend themselves using handguns.
And whether Kenny is stuck in the alleyway, or in the walker infested building, he is seen defending himself with a pistol.

They didn't leave their weapons behind. Lee put all of those in his pockets.
  • Yeah Lee had a handgun to defend the motel and then when Lilly killed carley, Lee kept Carleys gun

  • Possibly.
However, if you noticed right before Lilly shoots Carly, she pulls a pistol from behind her back, meaning only one of two things.

#1:Lilly stole Carly's handgun and used it against her.
Or #2, Lilly had a handgun of her own.

Unless you want your gun to stop working properly in the future because it got fucked from being bashed against a bunch of things, yeah... you should try to avoid using it as a melee weapon. Or, as a CLUB, anyways.

If you strike something with the butt of your gun often enough or do it improperly (there is a more "proper" way to do it), it's possible to screw up the aiming alignment or damage the barrel of the gun, or mess up the magazine or the handle. That doesn't mean you can *never* do it, but there's a difference between pistol whipping/hitting something with the butt of your gun, and using it as a club. The second thing is a bad idea, unless you really don't care about the functionality of the gun afterwards.
