So... We can pretty much say goodbye to hubs?

After the two first episodes, we all thought that episode 3 will have a hub and it din't happen, we din't even get a chance to explore more of Carver's camp or talk with the 400 Days characters who came with Tavia to see their point of view and such but no, it din't happen.
Considering that there are two episodes left to play, I think we can sadly kiss our chances of getting a hub in this season goodbye.

We had a mini hub when we first got to Carver's camp. The thing that bothered me about the episode gameplay wise was that there wasn't really any point and click. For example when you had to cut the berries. I wanted to do that D:

If we get a hub in either of the remaining two episodes, I will be absolutely stunned. There aren't any significant hubs in TWAU, either, so I think its just part of the new Telltale approach. Along with 90 minute episodes.

I really wish there were some way to make it clear to whoever made such a decision how wrongheaded it was. Certainly I doubt anything at all we say here could change it, even if the entire forum were united in asking for a change.
  • I can understand why people like the hubs, but if the episodes continue being this good I'm fine without them
  • From the looks of episode 4 it looks like it's mostly going to be hubs.Since we have 2 new characters,Sarita's backstory, and Sarah's breakdown and most likely suicide.
  • They had a prefect opportunity for a hub when they first got to carver's camp, but they blew it. You could only talk to three people and they just said one thing and that was it. When you tried to talk to Kenny, you just tell him you didn't find anything. Not sure why... I didn't even get a chance to look before I accidentally told Kenny I didn't find anything.
  • It wasn't really a hub, we couldn't have conversations with anyone or really do anything jus look at stuff.

    Yup.

Goodbye, hubs. Oh, this was a funeral...

There are pseudo-hubs scattered throughout Season 2, but to qualify as the real thing, I think you need a few things Season 2 lacks:

    - The ability to talk to people through dialogue trees. To come back and talk to them later, if you want, and follow up on conversation threads you didn't pursue earlier. Or not talk to them at all, if you aren't interested in that character. If you talk to someone in a Season 2, there are two possibilities: either its a plotline conversation which will usher you on to the next area or they give you a single sentence and then have nothing else to say.

    - A clearly defined exit. In the most recent TWAU episode, I was actually really paranoid about what I clicked on Crane's desk because I knew the second I clicked the 'important' thing I would never get a chance to click anything else there. Likewise, in TWD, you can talk to the plot-relevant person or look at the plot-relevant thing and the hub is over.

Back in Season 1, when the St. John Brothers said, 'just say the word and we'll go scout out that bandit camp' or 'are you ready to go check out that fence now?', those were pretty obvious flags: do what you're going to do around here and then choose to pursue these things, 'cause once you select that dialogue you're leaving this area.

I might also include a bit of freedom of movement, but frankly most Season 1 hubs were also lacking in that area.

Yeah I agree with everything this guy just said. As a TWAU fan, I can tell you there are no hubs of any significant meaning in that series either. It really does appear to be a part of Telltale's new game formula...90 minute episodes focused on action sequences over narrative and character development.

  • Hubs? Kiss the word "video game" goodbye. This is an interactive novel at this point. This episode had less gameplay than the first two episodes. And that is saying A LOT.
  • I actually got surprised when I had to do a QTE to dodge walkers

  • By episode 5 it'll just be movie we watch from beginning to end.

  • GOODBYE HUBS!!
  • I agree completely with this.

I've become so paranoid about trying to figure out which the the "Move the plot forward" item, just because they seem to have completely abandoned the option to back-out and finish off exploring the area.

  • They have swapped out exploration for more intense scenes and decisions it seems.
  • Am I the only one who thinks there was hardly any gameplay?
Don't get me wrong I loved the episode it was awesome!
But all I felt like I was doing was the occasional click now and then.

Agree with this. Especially a great point made on your TWAU portion. I really do think Telltale needs to listen to people like you, to me this is the main thing that stops Season Two of pure greatness the first season had. If it had something like this I would have no doubt in saying this season will stand to the same greatness the first Season was. I'm loving Season Two and loved the second episode quite a bit. But they really, really need to remember we're playing a video game. I felt like I had less interactivity in this episode than ever before. Could even say I felt like I was in prison! :D

  • And the thing is... I don't even mind the actual gameplay wasn't super amazing anyway. xD

  • We can say goodbye to hubs if we keep putting up with this shit. Good thing i can speak with my wallet when i won't be buying any of their other games until they at least get back to working on 1 game at once. Yeah not 4 games at once, not 3, not 2 but ONE game at once.

  • Hubs are incredibly boring.
  • It's doubtful it will feature a hub environment.
