Not going to go into a long rant because i'm tired. But, I just finished the episode and I will say that I enjoyed it very much.
Was it perfect? No
Did it have EVERYTHING that I wanted? No
Did I still have fun? Yes
Will my heart go on? Yes
Am I still gonna jump into Ep.4 just as ready as i've ever been? Hell yes
There's still two more episodes to go..the season isn't over..if you want to complain after that then go ahead..But right now it's like stopping after every chapter in a book and being upset for not having closure.
Lol this is ridiculous. OP did you really just write a thread whose sole purpose is dedicated to complaining about other people complaining?
I hate to break it to you champ, but Telltale is not infallible. And a million dollar company most certainly does not need some internet fan-boy fighting their battles for them.
One example I saw the other day, which I nearly replied to, perfectly summarises people. Some anyway. The person in question went around the forum saying the episode deserves 0 - 1/5 and was very short, yet they later said parts made them cry. This does not compute and is totally non-sensical. If something affects you like that, then it warrants high marks in my view, regardless of other faults. But of course, the person had acted like the faults made any positive aspects irrelevant. Granted, this person was probably trolling, hence why I'm glad I didn't reply, but it's what annoys me with people and society in general. Or should I say the internet?
Anyways, to get on topic and the above was said in general, I think there is one place where people are setting themselves up for disappointment. That is in expecting the episodes to be long. I think it's best people either accept the hour and a half playtime or move on. Doesn't mean people are wrong to want a longer length episode, but the devs obviously have their own wants which doesn't gel with what others want. While artists (i say artists because I'm referring to writers, game developers etc.) have a responsibility to deliver a polished product, they don't have to do what fans want, though they should be prepared for a loss of sales. Essentially, just keep it in mind that they don't have to do what you want them to and you can vote with your wallet. I know that I, as a writer, would hate it if I felt I had to write something to appease others. There's kind of a difference between writing something for yourself and including things others want that works well with what I want for a story, and just writing for others. Also, just remember that you should always consider an episode's positive points as well as the negative aspects. Too many people always focus on the bad, like the tiniest things ruin a game or story.
As far as my own thoughts are concerned, I enjoyed the episode. Didn't think the character of Reggie was that great, but hey, it's a minor nitpick. I'm not going to act like others do and say it ruined the episode.
Edit: Actually, something else. I'm actually trying game development with RPG Maker VX Ace. I've already spent 110 hours learning the tool, spent hours balancing encounters in the first area and I'm not even done yet. Granted, some of that time was spent browsing. But yeah, people's reactions towards RPG Maker are that everything should be free. The games don't class as proper ones. It's a lot of work to create a good game, and I'd like to see others try it and then offer their finished product for free. Anyways, all of this is to say there's a lot of irrational hate and criticism out there, not just aimed at Telltale's games. It just happens everywhere and it's pretty sad really.
I agree with you JonGon that we expect too much from an episode and like to think our own story, but what made season one so great is clearly missing from season two, otherwise there wouldn't be so many mixed feelings. Since episode 2 everything seems to be rushed and their is inconsistency with the writing, what the hell happened to angry Rebecca? You can really get under her skin in episode one, so you'd think she'd still hate Clem and you can do the same with Alvin too, but then in episode 2 they talk to you as if you're good friends regardless of how you treated them the previous episode.
This is silly, it makes sense to talk to them. Lots of them didn't seem to like it there. No one said they want a life story out of them, just interactions
I think the biggest problem is that most people keep comparing this season to season 1, which is plain stupid. This isn't Season 1.5, it's Season 2 and a lot of things have changed in terms of gameplay and pacing, which is fine by me, because it makes Clem's storyline appear more individual.
I love the new season as much as I loved the first one, haters may hate, I won't change my opinion.
Let us see where the next months take us. Right now is a good time as any to butt heads, I guess. Not like it will change a thing, but... yo… moreu know. I mean no serious offense to you guys, but I would not let you have it your way for what little is left of this season, if I had the option.
I said some days ago that I think they are one effective tool in character development, but by no means the only one. There is character development, for sure, it's just lackluster IMO. We know the basics, but I don't know about you, I care little about these people in the long run. That is sad. That should not really be the case.
The spotlight is tight as it is, and our characters are begging to be in it some more. This helps. This is an effective tool, man, no need to get rid of it. It improves the episode in various ways.

I guess I was a bit stupid, but I cant help but imagine things in so many ways. It's how I explore my expanse of creativity. Truth is the connection between Clem and Carver was very interesting, like how he's trying to make her like him, how they're alike. Yeah it did sound a little cliché but allowed Clem to develop further, I left bastard though, but I have a feeling his past presence will forever be molded into her psyche.
Ghost Carver confirmed? XD I'm just kidding. But I think you get the idea of where I'm going at.
Yea this thread has a good point.. I gotta start trying not to figure everything out before the episode comes out.. I should just wait for the episode and enjoy it with no expectations from made up scenarios in my head.
i liked the ep, but it just felt like there was alot left out or changed. i'm getting a little sick of the next time trailers being almost completely wrong in what happens. feels like they're givin us a look at something then sayin "well, now they're expecting this, so lets just change it up." character's had shit for appearances/lines. alvin had some reason to be absent, but a scene of carver having clem present during the beat down would have gone a long way. nick had next to nothing and seemed more like an after thought of "oh shit, some people didn't let him die. we better put his model in." and carlos was more or less absent for all but the back of the truck and his own death. the only people who really had any decent screen time were bonnie, kenny, sarah, rebecca, and reggie. everybody else was a wallflower with minimal impact on the episode. i attribute this to bad writing more than anything. it was... sufficient, but was really lacking in what could have been done.
heck, take a look at the vid they released on reggie. "hey everyone, here's your first look at a new character appearing in the game." game comes out and now it's "i know we hyped him up, but now he's dead. hey, that's TWD for ya."

I personally loved this episode, just like every other episode Telltale provides us with.
I just tend to not make much of the supposed lack of things and just enjoy it for what it is. A brilliantly told story which keeps me playing until the very end.
I think the disappointment is coming from comparing our reactions to our reactions of Season 1. During Season 1, we didn't know what to expect. During Season 2, we have an idea of what is coming. It's the same thing I believe any sequel gets. There will always be some sense that the previous one was better. I'm sure you see this in forums with any game series that has had 1 or more sequels. That's just how I see it.
I can understand the trailer issue annoying you (and Reggie), but things change a lot during development sadly. Of course, I'm speaking as a writer, but I'm sure it's the same with game development. Personally, I think the best policy is to not mention anything. That way, you don't promise something and then not deliver.
But that might not fit with the tv series feel Telltale seems to want, unfortunately.

It was disappointing, yes, but not for the reasons you might think. Look, I'm not saying that the choices had a lot of impact in season 1 and that was all that matters in the entire game, but more than ever did it feel that nothing I did in this episode or even previous ones as a result mattered. I'm not sad due to lack of hubs, but lack of backstory, some interesting characters moments. Because of this, I feel like I don't know these characters as much as the one in Season 1. Nick, Pete and debatebly Sarah are the only exceptions.
Was it cool to see this or that in In Harm's Way? Yeah, I suppose, but I still had a lot of complains. Reggi is pointless. The 400 days characters cameos are pointless. The whole stealing plan is kinda repetitive and Carver never tries to never let it happen again. The HUGE amount of contradictions between Tavia in 400 days and this episode. I could go on....
I really enjoy everyone complaining about the episodes being short and ep3 in particular being "rushed" and then goes on to complain about the time between releasedates being to long.
