Clementine's Physical Strength

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
**Ok, one more topic, then I'll stop**
Has anyone else noticed that Clem in pretty strong for an eleven year old girl? I know she has had to survive out there for 2 years, but she also has had to struggle to eat. It's not like she is getting the proper nutrients for muscle growth everyday. Look at what she had done in episode 3 alone. She carried a whole bucket of nails to Kenny and Mike and it doesn't look like she is struggling. She freakin' just picked up a 2x4 and beat a walker with it. She also handled that sledgehammer pretty well given it was almost 2/3 her height. She thew that bookshelf up with her body. She was able to hold the walker up from biting her. Her upper body strength is impressive when she is climbing around the place, not to mention how she easily opens the skylight windows. Again, I know she has to be strong given she has survived this long and we don't know what kind of work Christa taught her to do. But, she is also not getting 3 meals a day. I'm not trying to over think it. I'm just impressed. I can only think of maybe one or two friends that I knew were almost that strong when I was 11.

EDIT: Ok, maybe I over thought it. Maybe it just I see 11 year olds who couldn't even do this nowadays. I tend to over analyze things. Forget it. Ignore me. **stands up** Hi, my name is eRock92 and I'm and over analyzer. **sobs**

  • I don't think video games are for you. Perhaps you should try another hobby like lifting?
  • Eh, I think you've overthought Clem's strength...

But dat Clem/hatchet combo at the end of Episode 3, am I right?

When I was 11, I carried logs of wood.

Anyway, Sarah gave Clem +15 Strength, 10+ Endurance, +23% Accuracy and +10% Defence with the pinky swear. I kid.
  • The bucket didnt seem to have that many nails. The 2x4 didnt look that heavy. She actually had trouble with the sledgehammer, watch it again. She barely tilted the bookshelf, not "threw it" like you said. Skylight windows have hinges. The walker one is valid through
  • About the nails, the bucket could have only been partially full. We never saw inside of it. They probably didn't need too many nails, so I doubt it was that heavy. I was very surprised with the ease in which she yielded that sledgehammer though. I almost didn't choose it because I thought that it was a red herring weapon. I thought she'd be incapable of wielding it. Those things are heavy. Thing is, it's a game. So, there's going to be a lack of realism when it comes to characters' strength, shooting accuracy, recuperation time (just look at how well Kenny was doing after that beat-down), etc. You just have to suspend your disbelief. All games and even movies are like this. Think of The Walking Dead TV show (if you watch it). They make headshots every time and skulls and bone are cut through like butter. Clementine is a child protagonist in a zombie apocalypse game. So, in order to make things more exciting combat-wise, they have to give her a boost of strength. Just try to not think too hard about it, that's what I do. It doesn't really bother me because most movies/games are kind of unrealistic when it comes to human strength and ability.
  • I do appreciate how they make Clem so obviously physically weaker than Lee. Most walkers go out with more than one hit, she gets trapped more often, and it's clear that she has to rely more on her intelligence than on her strength. But yeah, she's pretty strong for her age, but that mostly has to do with her being the playable character lol
  • Consider people in prison right now. They get shit for nutrients but still bulk up huge.

It's hormones. When you're in survival mode, your body does strange and wonderful things.
  • Dude, she's fit. She's not sitting in a chair in the computer all day. Clementine is in the freaking apocalypse. It's not that hard to just carry a bucket of nails. Though, she couldn't really pick up the sledgehammer which is realistic.
  • Hysterical strength

The most common anecdotal examples are of mothers lifting automobiles to rescue their children, and when people are in life and death situations. Hysterical strength can result in torn muscles due to higher mechanical stress.
  • That was pretty sick.

  • You forgot the most important thing: she's growing up in the zombie apocalypse, not the world we're living in.
  • Don't forget Bonnie gave her that new epic jacket, that had to of boosted some stats.

  • they do bother me a bit but hey not that much. but there was a stairs option and then I failed to move clem then they git her so nect time with out thinkin I used the sledge and she didn't picked it like fucking Mario in the the video game she barely threw it. and I don't know about yall bout sledges now a days are lighter so it was probably a light sledge. and well I know its a video game but maybe her parents had strong genetics idk........ ._. ohh and lets not forget adrenaline its been reported that some people turn fucking mutant when scared and adrenaline makes them do crazy stuff

She might have started lifting during the 16 month timeskip.
  • Clementine lifts now, bro.
  • Haha she is! I am kind of depressed we only have two episodes left.

  • Yeeeeh.

She even chain killed. Reverse spiral uppercut from one zambie to another. Impressive moves right there.
