How Rebecca could have saved Alvin

So I was thinking that since Carver seemed to care so much for Rebecca's baby Rebecca should have had greater influence on Carver than she had. I know that Carver had history with the whole group but it seemed that the baby was his main reason to capture them.

So if she threatened Carver with suicide if he had even touched Alvin, do you think he would still beat up Alvin so bad? Because it would surely mean death to his child.

If she threatened suicide, he would have have locked her up and kept her under constant surveillance. Knowing Rebecca (presumably) as well as he did, he would have known that deep down she would never harm herself and the baby. He probably would have killed Alvin then and there to send a message.
