I have thought about this a lot. I haven't come up with many conclusions.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that Ocarina of Time is officially a prequel to the other games. And that Link to the Past was officially a prequel to the first two games.

My thoughts on this are a little outdated because I'm not that familiar with a lot of the newer games, but I think Ocarina of Time is the first game chronologically. Ganon has the Triforce of Power in all the games he's in, I think, and Ocarina of Time describes how he obtained it.

I remember seeing a few theories that the timeline split after the events of Ocarina of the Time. The world in Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass happen in the timeline when the Hero of Time was sealed for seven years while Ganondorf ruled Hyrule, and the world with all the other games is the one where Ganondorf was sealed when the Hero of Time was still a child. That might have been officially confirmed, I don't remember.

It's amazing how the creaters of The Legend of Zelda manage too interconnect the themes and characters in each of the games while making some dynamic changes at the same time.

i always considered they were all individual, i.e. taking part in parallel unverses at exactly the same time.

also what is everyones name for link, i have been flame for ages

That one always seemed to make the most sense for me as a kid, and still does now!

I believe the AVGN made a video about this and because i haven't played all of them i can't say i know.

AVGN did a good video, but he didn't have his own explanation. He just sort of complained!

Think currently Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask is the first one/prequel and Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass is the chronologically the last (so far). Beyond that there probably isn't really any set order. Beyond any hints within anyway.

From what I gather on the net and from creator interviewz, the first game is the minish cap. This is the 1st since Gannon isnt the final boss and this game starts with link hatless; the origin of the hat is in this game

Also, the hero mentioned in the legend is not the hero of time but the hero of men.

Ocrana is the 2nd in the chronology. As for the third game, this is where the story gets interestin...

Orcana of Time is the game that divides the timeline in half. When you beat Ganon, Link is sent back several years as a child because the princess wants him to relieve the childhood he have lost. This cause a Hyrule where Link disappeared and another were he prevents Ganon from takin over Hyrule by snitchin on what he is goin to do

There is proof that this is what happened because the co creator of Zelda says so in several of his interviews

In the Hyrule where Link is a kid, he then goes to the next n64 title while the universe where he went missin, the kingdom becomes flooded; this is the universe that wind waker and ph is located in.

This game was also mentioned by the co maker of zelda that wind waker is a parallel universe from the wii zelda game. This idea is futher held in which Ganon is in prision (and never taken over hyrule) prior to the Wii game because of Link's snitching.

Everyone keeps saying that!!! WHY? The hat is just part of the regular kokiri dress code, they ALL have that hat!

In the Minish cap, the hat was originally some wizard who followed ya around on your head. When you transform the guy back into his true form, he gives you a hat that reminds you of the guy's former form!! Also, the cap gave ya the power to shrink in this one and after the minish cap, all the links starts with the hat!!!! Also, minish cap is more recent than Ocrana and it is possible they retconned the kokiri dress code or will make a game that will explain that the male kokiri wear the green caps as a tribute to the hero in the minish cap or have another origin to it!!!!!!!

I can use exclaimation marks too!!!!!!!:D

Also, the kokiri that evolved in the wind wakers do not have the cap.

I think GameTrailers probably nailed it, http://www.gametrailers.com/player/15194.html

Wand of Gamalon and Faces of Evil are the only ones that matter.

The Gametrailers vid is wrong in regards to where the wii game fits.

damn that guy is annoying its an ocarina not an oakarina

i'm gonna expand on what i said before.

i already said that they are parallel universes, however some games can occur in the same universe, ie OOT and MM to say that there is no paradox created link lives his child hood but also completes the adult story line of OOT. zelda 1 and 2 are in the same universe too, its been confirmed. the minish cap is one i am not sure of i would again say its a parallel universe to all others, with twilight princess i would believe that it is in a parallel universe similar to that of OOT as the story line is similar, despite a few twists. and finally i would say that the windwaker and phantom hourglass follow on from any or all of the stories with all universes converging on one another being a possibility

    No, no, no, no!
The time line is linear with no alternate universes. There is one Link and several Zeldas...

He did say that was a guess.

who said it was a guess since the person who posted it said he thinks gametrailers nailed it, which I replied that they got it wrong. If you mean Gametrailers, they are still wrong

Regardless of who said it was a guess, is still wrong which I am clarifyin' since I have seen on other sides that takes Gametrailers' belief that the Twilight game is in the same universe as Wind Waker as truth, which in reality is not

The co-creator of Zelda have mentioned several times that the Twilight princess title exist in a parallel of that from the wind waker. He also mentions the game being in the same hyrule where Link relieved his childhood.

I apologize for sound harsh, but l have been quite bitter lately

I just found out the other day that each character is a different link...
    I'll explain:
Link finds the heroes tonic in the first adventure but about 100 years later another hero finds the tonic (his name happens to be link too) THEN ANOTHER HUNDRED YEARS!!!ANOTHER LINK IS BORN!!!(that must of been a popular name at that time)He finds the left behind tonic.
But that basicly explains why none of the games connect except for small connections.Although i do beleive that the link in Ocarina of time, and majoras mask are the same one..(But i think majoras mask is right before twilight princess.)

heres my thought of the timeline.

    Windwaker>Phantom hourglass>Zelda four swords>Zelda Minish Cap>Zelda>Zelda 2>Zelda3>oracle of ages/oracle of seasons>Ocarina>Majoras>Twilight princess

[sarcasm]but the only games that really matter are the ones below[/sarcasm]
(wand of gamelon>faces of evil>Zeldas adventure)
