What year is the Walking Dead on?

    Still, like someone said before, it doesn't matter when ZA has started. That's why in comics there are no references to twitter or Portal and other media like books, TV shows or games including such details. I think Kirkman is allowing for this because he doesn't want to specify the exact year or any dates besides seasons like winter or summer.

    The books are also still being released and are also part of the main canon.

    Yeah that's an awesome picture.

  • It's in 2008 now.
  • There was another thread about the same subject so I think I might copy and paste my post from there.

    "I know that it interests people to hypothesise about what year it started but it really doesn't matter, Kirkman/TTG most likely intentionally made it open to interpretation. Essentially it started whatever year you wanted it to start in.

    This is just my opinion, I may very well be wrong."
  • Yeah, but the novels have some continuity errors here and there.

    No, the novels like the game are also part of the canon.

  • like 2 years and a half or something like that

    How many years has it been since episode 1 and now episode 3 of season 2?

  • No problemo!

    @Healoz and Wanderer7897 Thanks! :)

    In 400 Days, gas prices (in the diner shots) are pretty close to average gas prices in 2003-2004 (approx. $2.00). So whether Kirkman really cares what year the comics take place in, looks like the game is going for the 2003 start date.

    No, the novels like the game are also part of the canon.

  • Good eye, but that could also be the license plate expiration date (maybe NC does their plates that way?) Having the expiration date on the plate seems to me more logical, so cops could check for expired plates easier, rather than the date the plate was stamped (like the vehicle inspection stickers on the windshield).

    "But if I remember right, isn't there a 2005 license plate in Season 2?" Yes, i posted a screenshot of it a bit further up i.imgur.com/p0hXSHf.jpg

    I'm not exactly sure what the stickers mean but it looking at pics of american licence plates on google it looks like you renew the plate by putting new year stickers over the old ones, i'm not sure how far in advance that you can get them but is it works like the UK tax disc system you can purchase it a year in advance so in theory that sticker could have been purchased in 2004 ready for 2005. It looks like the licence plate has been there for a while and it's in the middle of the forest so someone could have put i there before the outbreak which was 27 months before they got there, if that was the case it would mean that the out break could have started some time after 2005.
