something none of you guys considered so far: style, and i mean physical, visual style.
i my opinion the 360 looks a lot classier than the original xbox, but still looks somewhat like a toy. the ps3 however is glossy black with chrome and looks a lot better next to your huge, top-notch, full hd tv-thingy...which might also be glossy black. even the wii looks better than the 360...would be a good choice if you also have an apple-tv or macmini on your tv-shelf.
i will probably be getting a ps3 someday..also, because it has final fantasy and i already got mass effect for the pc. that's another point that might be taken into consideration...some of these "exclulsive" game are only on the 360 or ps3, but if there is also an pc version and you have a gaming-capable pc you don't really need to see these as exclusive.

From what I heard, it's only Portal that's been allowed to get away with it, what with Valve and MS being best buddies 4 eva and whatnot.

I've been standing by the PS3 a lot in this thread, but I can't say it's a looker. Far too big and bulky, but then again they probably would have made it smaller if they could.
That said, yeah, the Wii's a good looking machine (even if I'm not really a fan of the console itself). Very compact.

Yep, another oft-overlooked fact is shelf space.

Yeah, the PS3 does look all shiny and nice... It's also huge, weighs close to 20 pounds, gets hot enough to scold, and at times sounds like a jet engine on approach when it's not getting enough air. But it is self contained, whereas the X360 is smaller, but it has a huge external power supply that needs to be hidden somewhere where it won't catch on fire. The 360 also has it's own unique brand of annoying noises, and cooling problems. So, yet again, it's a draw in my opinion.

So only Valve and capcom can make games over 200 mb? I didn't Valve could (I have never heard of stay alive) but I did read that MS allowed Capc0m to make bc and sf with no limit

My personal preference is the 360. I do know it has its faults, though.

They do charge for online, though in my experience that does tend to make the actual online service better. And they definitely have high-cost peripherals, the worst of which being the online adapter and the hard drives.

The actual cost of Live can fairly easily be mitigated to an extent, though. Some Live packs that sell Gold subscriptions contain games or peripherals, and if you're in the market for those already, it can be a great deal. Some of them are "out of print", and can be bought for a real bargain if you can find 'em, and that can make the cost actually non-existent at times. That is, if you were going to buy a camera in the first place. =p

I vastly prefer the controller. This is a rather big thing for me. If the controller is uncomfortable to use, I'm not going to have fun because my means of connecting with the game is already a point against the experience.

In the end, of course, it's about the games. From the start, I knew the 360 was going to be a big supporter of western RPGs, which is a big deal to me. Games like Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fable II, Fallout 3, and any future Bioware console title.

...Now, I know that Elder Scrolls IV and Fallout 3 are also on PS3. But the point is, that to get the full western RPG experience on a console...the 360 was it.

Really, at the end of the day, I'd look at the games and see what exclusives matter more to you. See if you can get your hands around a controller for each. Look at what you'd really be spending for the same thing. See what you can do to not pay retail and mitigate costs that might keep you from buying something you might otherwise choose and all that.

    PS3:599$ us dollars
360:199$ us dollars, but you will probably need a additional hard drive, and those are like 40-50 us dollars.

I love my PS3, as it is now a place for less marketable and unique game, and really has an amazing library! It really depends on your taste. I'm not a big online player (allthough I do enjoy it from time to time), PS3 suits me. The reason I got it in the first place was because it was the cheapest BluRay player out there, but soon after I bought it, it became so much more.

    Wrong!

New PS3 with everything you need but headset plus two great games: $400
New 360 with everything you need and no games: $300

I have both. So far my PS3 has worked as a great Blu-Ray movie player :P

I tend to buy all my games for Xbox360 because I love the achievements system and how the "score" is cumulative. Plus, Xbox has had some of the best exclusives: Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey are two very awesome games. Kameo wasn't bad either. And I haven't played them yet but I'm a fan of the Star Ocean series, and they got Star Ocean 4. Plus they have all these RPGs like Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant (which is also coming to PS3), which aren't supposed to be that good, but it's interesting to see since Xbox used to be really bad on the RPG front. Online wise, they have Braid, which is Awesome!

Also, Wallace & Gromit is coming to the Xbox! Can't go wrong with that! ;)

PS3, on the contrary, and so far, has been lacking exclusive exciting games. I gotta say Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted were fantastic games though. Heavenly Sword was ok, but nothing to write home about --just very very pretty. There's Little Big Planet, haven't played it, but have only heard great things about it.

I'm not writing my PS3 off yet though. There's some promise in the future with Final Fantasy VS, Uncharted 2, God of War 3 and, of course, Heavy Rain, which I'm sure will ROCK. And, even further in the future, Kingdom Hearts 3, which I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft gets a share of that since they managed to get FFXIII, but as of now, Kingdom Hearts has been exclusive to PS3.

As a mater of fact, it seems that now is when PS3 is going to start to pick up, as there's not much in the future of Xbox that gets me all excited, except for Mass Effect 2 and Wallace & Gromit!

All in all, it really depends on how much you want to spend, if you care about the achievement systems or don't care (the PS3 trophies is kind of lame). And, of course, the games.

I had my PS3 when I got the Xbox, and got it because of Mass Effect. I'm happy having both, because there won't be any games I'll miss. Look at the games, what games do you want to have-- both already out in the market and upcoming, and make your decision on that.

Well, MS has been playing their cards close to the chest though... they've saved everything for E3, so it should be quite a good lineup. Forza 3 and Perfect Dark HD are pretty much confirmed, Splinter Cell Conviction will be exclusive, Mass Effect 2, Lionhead and Rare's new game, the second DLC for GTA, the new Front Mission and who knows what other surprises they'll have in store like FFXIII last year.

So yeah, between that, Trico, Ratchet and Uncharted's sequels, the myriad of third party games and Telltale's new series this E3 sounds great :P

EDIT: The XBLA limit was taken down for everyone. The Watchmen tie-in game was over a full gigabyte and there are several other examples.

I said nothing exciting (with the exception of some titles on your list, which I also named).

I also said PS3 is starting to pick up now, with a promising future.

I have both systems and so far, the Xbox is better for me. I used to own a PS2 before and got the PS3 before the Xbox, since I disliked the lineup of products for the original Xbox. No need to boast a list of titles most of which I'd never buy in my face ;) Interesting titles ARE coming to the PS3, but so far, 360 got the upper hand in my book. We'll see how it develops since, like I said, right now I see the PS3 future brighter than the Xbox one.

By the way, Eternal Sonata is not a PS3 exclusive. It's more Xbox exclusive in any case, as it came out a year or year and half before on the 360 than it did on the PS3, which seems to be a trend, but there's a reason for it:

It's a lot easier to develop for the 360 than the PS3. The PS3 is a beast system that is very hard to get into and has not been around for too long. Xbox is more Microsoft friendlier of course, and therefore, easier. Most games tend to be a bit buggier on the PS3 because they were developed for Xbox and then ported to the PS3. When I was working with Activision, that's what we'd do: develop for 360, and worry about the PS3 at " some point".

In reference to this, we are coming close to the age where the original xbox was replaced, as well as the fact the 360 is a year older than the PS3.
The exciting thing about the 360 is the online experience. with dlc being far superiorly implemented on the 360, the multiplayer system being far superior. this is not a fan boy argument, i prefer the 360 yes but because of the games, controller design and additional features such as inside
    Xbox.

    Sorry for the double post.

    ...

Are youserious? The games I could belive, but I find the controller almost as uncomfortable as the Dreamcast's. PS, Dead Rising 2 the seemingly superior sequel will also come out on PS3 and I personally find Halo 3 boring. Even on online.

A few of your game were on PC too. as for the remakes they have been done seamlessly and look at on modern tvs than the originals, plus easier to get hold of.
