Why is it Luke's Fault?

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead

Everyone seems to blame Luke for Kenny getting almost beaten to death, but that doesn't make sense to me because it was Carver finding the first radio that prompted him to demand the second one. Then, Kenny bravely took the fall for that second radio and got beat up. But Luke didn't have the first radio. That is, not unless Rebecca or whoever had that radio gave it to Luke before Clem could try to give him the one that was supposed to be his. I think it was possible but unlikely that Luke had any radio on him at all, so that means Carver also caught someone else in the group (whoever had the first radio). So am I missing something or what? Why is it all Luke's fault? (Even if it was, why are people so mad at him for getting caught? That's what happens in exciting stories. Plans fail. No one would care if everything always worked out right for the protagonists.)

  • Well if i got it right i think Carver found the radio and then he also found Luke sneeking around the building trying to find food. So i'm guessing if he only found the radio it would seem like he lost it or something, but since he also found Luke he realized something was fishy. So maybe that's why they blame Luke? Personaly i blame Telltale. Like, Clem could have sneek some food for Luke if he'd ask her. They probably wanted to move the story forward and that's why it went down like that.
    I don't think it's Luke's fault tho

  • People just wanted to blame someone, and Luke was the easiest to blame. :3

  • Luke admitted his hunger (very understandably) got the best of him, and maybe he got sloppy stealing some food. If I was operating on as little as Luke was at that point, can't say I'd do very well either. Luke admits that, and that gave some of the community the excuse to blame him (unjustly, I think). Just very bad timing and luck for Luke. :(

  • The list of people to blame for Kenny getting his ass kicked:

    Carver

  • I don't blame Luke for that... But I'm really curious about how Carver got the first radio? The radio to be kept by Luke is carried by Clem, so the other one should be kept by the group. And I think during the daytime it shouldn't be carried by anyone but be hidden in the room they slept in, because the group is sepearated and overwatched. So I assume that Tavia reported about the missing radios, then Carver searched the room and found the first one. Luke was caught just before or after the search, which had Carver clear about their whole plan. But even if he was not caught, once Carver found one of the radios the group would be asked for the other one...
However, it suddenly comes to me that it seems to be Luke's underestimating the radio keeper's ability that caused the situation...

  • Blaming Luke for what happened to Kenny is the same as blaming Clem for what happened to Lee. Yes, their actions directly correlated to what happened, but it was still Carver/the stranger who did the bad deed.

  • Kenny made the choice to take the fall for Clem. He didn't have to but he did, and that's on him. It wouldn't have been heroic if it was Luke's fault he got beaten up.

  • Luke getting caught kind of put the group in the predicament that they were in, but yeah, obviously he can't be directly blamed for Carver beating Kenny up.

  • Yeah that sounds like the way it could have gone down, but if so, everyone underestimated the radio keeper, not just Luke. And carver would have needed an uncanny ability to know when something is stolen rather than just lost for him to have searched the prison first thing in the morning, which is entirely possible, dont get me wrong.

  • It's true that in that case everyone underestimated the radio keeper, Kenny himself included (or he would not agree to carry out the two ideas together) ...But I think that Carver and his group are smart enough to know when the radios were missing. Carver is strict to his followers, so it's reasonable to assume that Tavia (or perhaps Vince?) is ordered to count the radios every morning. And the ones Carver distrust most are the "prisoners". So it's also reasonable for him to search the prison first.
