Narrative games

I've been watching clips on zooming.tv , and they reference Heavy Rain a lot (which to my understanding, is a similar choice, narrative driven game like The Walking Dead... (same creator as Farenheiht but not as many annoying quicktime sequences) - my lap top now would die immidiately if I tried to play it, but is it only for the PS3?

  • Then again, I suppose if worse comes to worst, there's my excuse to catch up on the newer Final Fantasys. (people say they've jumped the shark, but I thought they brought the standards back with XII...)

  • It's a PS3 only exclusive but it's a REALLY good game. I prefer the way they handle fights in Heavy Rain and if you don't do a QTE properly then the character will die permanently so there's always an overwhelming fear of losing a character. I'd say get it if you can or watch a playthrough.

  • I actually need to play this game. I haven't played it, I do have a PS3. I also saw one scene a while ago about a glitch where somebody keeps repeating the name "Shawn".

  • Heavy Rain is fantastic and worth the money! Just beware the 1st hour of the game is ridiculously bland. But after that 1st hour it gets insanely good!

  • Okay you can play the game you want and form your own opinion, but whilst Telltale said they gained inspiration from the game and wanted to make a game like it. They did a MUCH BETTER job in terms of narrative and story.

Heavy Rain is written by David Cage and in my opinion he's one of the worst directors and story-writers in the videogame industry. You'll find Heavy Rain with little to no character development (opposed from two protagonists), with some "heavy" looking decisions MEANING NOTHING. Most characters don't form an opinion based on what you say (Like in Walkng Dead) they just have preset dialogue to what actions you did. So this means even if you did good actions but then you tell them you hate them, they say what a nice person you are.

Character motivations make no sense, voice acting on children is horrendous. If you want to play it, I'll respect your opinion and let you play it. But I'm just letting you know, it may not be worth your time.

  • Heavy Rain is fine. I like it a bit more than David Cage's other works, but a lot of the voice acting and dialogue seem really off. The ending is also kinda dumb if you think about it.

I would recommend against FF13. Haven't played much of it myself, but I've heard...not good things.

  • David Cage has some awesome ideas but he can't write for shit. Indigo Prophecy was a fucking mess.

  • I was really into it when I started playing it... Then I kept dying from the time events... Then I read somewhere aliens were involved and it was just wtf...

Then there was Next Life, which was a good game, and Overclocked... Aliens ruin everything (Overclocked didn't have aliens, but still, the twist at the end was bs...)
