Theory: Genetically modified food and the walkers of TWD universe.
Most people dont know this but over 75% of the food found in stores has already been genetically modified. Possibly even all of it since genetically modified crops have already interbred with natural crops via pollen in the air.
Genetically modified food as we know it takes the genes/dna from other animals for example scorpion venom and splices it into tomatoes so that when bugs try to feed on the tomatoes they become paralyzed in fall off. Luckily humans are immune to the kind of venom spliced in and can eat as many of these tomatoes as they want without turning ill. Another plus of this is "we are what we eat" meaning these tomatoes may soon become part of us and give us a natural insect repellent from mosquitoes.
Now think about this there is a bug that freezes and dies in the winter but when the sun comes out in the spring time it uses the sun's energy to reanimate itself and comeback to life. What if the gene from this bug was spliced into genetically modified crops and those crops became part of the DNA of the people in the walking dead universe causing people to reanimate. Possibly even a natural preservative genetic added. This new gene would become part of human DNA but what would cause people to attack other people?
Say someone with the reanimation gene died to rabies. They would come back to life but the rabies would ravage their brain worse then how they died leaving them nearly speechless and more violent making them the first walker. They would go on to bite other people possibly even people with other diseases and infections killing them in the process but since the Genetically modified foods are already apart everyone in the walking dead universe its the reason why everyone reanimates after they are killed. What if things like rabies, hepatitis, and parasites are in walker bites causing them to be so deadly. Basically what if germs like rabies are taking over the reanimated bodies as host and because of GMOs using the bodies to spread?
What if Rick died when he went into coma but just reanimated since he was not bitten thanks to a reanimation gene in GMOs?
What if Carl in the comic after getting half his face blown off died but reanimated back to life thanks to a GMO gene?
What if the ones that were not bitten and died to blood loss had no flow of anti-bodies and had germs take over their mind and the only sense they have left is to eat what ever they can get their hands on to survive or just sit their blankly?

Clearly the Umbrella Corporation was a reference to Monsanto...
No, but GMO's are overdone... There are benefits and there are certain problems (IE development of resistence in pest-resistant crops, other monopolizing business practices with GMO's...) but GMO does not automatically equal 'frankenfood.'

Everyone that dies are reanimated as Walkers, the way you die does not matter, a person does not have to be bitten in order to be reanimated.
