I didn't expect Carver to die in episode 3.

I didn't expect Carley to get shot. I didn't expect Kenny to get beaten to a pulp. I didn't expect Johnny getting shot.
Mainly to do with people getting shot or beaten.
Katjaa's suicide. Came right out of the blue for me.

Omids death was in unexpected. Carlos dying, sarita getting bit. I'm surprised Clem didn't curse even once in this episode.

I didn't expect to fall in love with Nick and his beautiful face, after having played 201 always being rude to everyone and wanting to just leave. But, after that chat about his mom with Luke and the cellar, Nick officially became the greatest character.
Omid's death was kinda unexpected considering how early it was. Lee passing out so many times without turning (knew he'd save Clem but it seemed implausible to pass out that many times and still get up especially if you kept the arm). Having the option to save or kill Ben in 104.
