From Episode 4 we learned that The Crooked Man has been...crooked..because he was tortured with the "Breaking Wheel" aka Catherine where your bones get smashed with an hammer and you become a deformed person.
Isn't that fucking creepy.

Well, it wasn't really implied that TCM had been tortured that way though, was it? I think he just uses it as his icon because of the symbolism, as the torture device was used to make people literally "crooked".
It could be possibly. He must have a reason for his power lust
I dunno, the Catherine Wheel killed every people that was tortured in that way.
I think The Crooked Man was tortured using the Catherine Wheel, because it doesn't make sense to use wheel just as a symbol that you see all over is Lair.
And only a Fable can survive such a torture.
Maybe you`re right about it, a Fable could survive.
im not so sure about that I read about the wheel a little while back and its said that they would use a club or iron cudgel to beat u with, and break ur bones. Then they leave u in it for days and repeat the cycle, over and over again. a doubt a fable can survive and regenerate something that brutal.
Depends on how popular they are, really. An immensely popular fable like Pinnochio, or Hansel and Gretel could take a sniper round to the head and still live. A less popular one like Donkeyskin could be plausibly killed.
Remember that if he became the Crooked Man because the Catherine Wheel torture made him "crooked", then this would have had to have happened in the Homelands, where all the events of the original stories of Fables took place. Back in the Homelands the people that now call themselves Fables in the Mundy world were not "hard to kill" and most of them aged normally. Once they moved to the Mundane world, they realized they don't age and won't die as easily as before, because their stories that were known by Mundies somehow gave them power.
So he would most likely have died, because he wouldn't have been a Fable yet.
I remember Johann The Butcher saying something about the Wheel being in the mundane world or something like that...
Yep, of course it is. But the original Fables aren't born in the Mundane world. The stories that make them who they are happen in the Homelands.
So he survived it, has the scars and deformities to prove it and since then uses the wheel as his symbol or a reminder of how much a badass he is. Case closed.
I had the idea that maybe the Crooked Man uses the Catherine wheel. As a form of torture to get money off of people, Since it is his symbol. He himself might have been tortured with it, hence the name "The Crooked Man" So he might have got the idea from that to use the wheel for himself to get revenge or to make himself feared.
Or maybe Bloody Mary uses it, Since she seems like the kind of girl that doesn't mind getting her hands dirty.
Dude...I have played so much Amnesia...this torture machine doesn't affect me at all. If I saw it like a year back, I would be creeped out.
